These cleaning solutions are legit. They work almost perfectly for cleaning off old and dried thermal grease or thermal wax, and the company's website has a set of useful instructions for how to use it: [...]
Basically, the solution labeled '1' is the one you use first to clean off the grease and dissolve it. You keep it there for maybe 30 to 60 seconds, and then wipe it off or put something over it to soak up the dissolved grease. I used paper towels for this. After it's all cleaned off, you apply '2', which is a purifier that removes all the tiny particles of leftover stuff, and basically makes it very shiny, smooth, and ready for thermal grease application. The purifier you can wipe immediately, using lint free cloth. I also used paper towels, since I didn't have coffee filters or eyeglasses cloth at hand, but it works fine as long as the towels aren't dusty. Overall, the cleaning fluids worked great, and I used the Arctic Silver 5 grease for my laptop after cleaning it with these. You could probably go by without buying these, but it gives a lot of peace of mind to know that you're using something specially formulated just for thermal grease and wax cleaning, instead of potentially different mixes of isopropyl alcohol. Might be good to air out the room you're working in, since it does have a bit of an odd lemon-y smell.

First things first, yes bottle one is probably just a generic citrus based cleaner and bottle two is probably just isopropyl alcohol. Now that that's out of the way let me state: I don't care what it is, it works. Yes I could just clean old paste off with isopropyl but sometimes it's not strong enough to cut through a really nasty mess and using cleaning agents like Goo-Gone on electronics wigs me out because of the residue it leaves behind. Here's my experience with this stuff today. I decided I'd tear apart my recently red ringed XBox 360 and perform a few fixes, among them was repasting the chips. Much to my surprise when I took the heatsinks off the GPU and CPU it looked like a toddler had applied the previous paste with a squeeze bottle. Even better the cheap crap Microsoft opted to use had turned into concrete in the time it had spent in my box. Enter Arcticlean. After about 20 minutes of cycling between bottle 1 and bottle 2 and a lot of wiping up gunk with coffee filters the processors looked shiny and almost new and the 3mm border of gray gunk surrounding each chip was gone. After a little more work I now have a working 360 again. Also despite using absolutely excessive amounts of both liquids I still have more than enough for many a job ahead. So here's my synopsis: If you've got a simple job like replacing your CPU cooler for a nice new aftermarket cooler then you probably don't need this. Buy a 16oz bottle of 90+% isopropyl alcohol and have more than enough to clean hundreds of processors for years to come (it also works great for cleaning dirty electronics). However if you've got a real mess that requires a little more heavy duty approach the stuff in bottle 1 will cut through it and the stuff in bottle 2 leave everything like new (as well as cleaning up any leftover cleaner from bottle 1).

These cleaners made it easy to clean off my old thermal compound. It really gives me peace of mind that I am not hurting the processor with some other household cleaner. It made my life a lot easier and these cleaners are just a step in prolonging the life of my computer.

Works Very Well,
This review is from: ArctiClean 60ml Kit (includes 30ml ArctiClean 1 and 30ml ArctiClean 2) (Personal Computers)
This two-part cleaning solution worked great. I had excess thermal gunk on my CPU from the stock fan and thermal transfer paste, but the first solution dissolved it. The second solution had a visible brightening effect on the copper.

I bought this to replace my CPU cooler and this solution works flawlessly to remove old thermal paste from CPU. Only 2 to 3 drops of solution 1 is sufficient and then I use q-tips to clean it up. Repeat same steps for solution 2 to make the chip shine.

I'm not sure if it was the seller or the product, but I ordered ArctiClean 60ml Kit (includes 30ml ArctiClean 1 and 30ml ArctiClean 2) Item arrived on time, Unfortunately Bottle 1 arrived half full and obviously opened prior to receiving item, there is wear on sticker as well as the seal on the lid being cracked open. I do not trust it's contents due to it's condition

If your technical expertise is such that you're interested in this product, then you'll understand the importance of insuring the liquid in both containers is unadulterated. Proper bonding between a CPU and heat sink requires microscopic-level cleanliness. The manufacturer packages this product in a sealed, clear plastic pouch. The product arrived with the pouch slashed open. The lower half of the pouch was missing. Obviously, this item was not new. I have no idea whether the contents were contaminated or even whether the bottles contain the listed contents. Chances of me using this on my new build? Zero. Number of stars I would award if allowed? Zero. Chances of me wasting my time to return this? Yep, another zero.

ArctiClean solution does exactly what is intended. If you're trying to remove thermal grease off your CPU, these work perfectly. You apply a few drops and within a few seconds, you wipe it all off with a single towel swipe. But, they are around $6 for the two bottles. If you're only looking to wipe off some thermal gunk once or twice, I would not throw money into ArctiClean as it would be a waste, like what I did. They are great solutions but unless you clean thermal grease off a lot, it's not worth paying $6 for a couple droplets. You can find some cheaper solutions that do the exact same trick. |
