Product Description

Arctic Cooling MX-3 High Performance Thermal Compound is a high thermal conductivity and low thermal resistance compound for components that require optimum thermal dissipation. It is ideally suited for use in CPU, GPU cooling and other applications between power semiconductor components and heat sinks where thermal conductivity is a major factor. As an upgraded version of the award-winning ARCTIC MX-2, the performance of the ARCTIC MX-3 outranges other well-known thermal compounds clearly. This new compound is composed of carbon microparticles which lead to an extremely high thermal conductivity - 8.2 W/mK. It guarantees that heat from the CPU or GPU can be dissipated quickly and efficiently. Tested and proven, by using the ARCTIC MX-3, the CPU core temperature is 7°C and 2.5°C lower than using stock compound and other branded ones respectively. It shows how significant a high performance thermal compound can be to reduce the temperature. Such excellent cooling result is surely what every overclocker and gamer is looking for. The ARCTIC MX-3 is the easiest way to push the overclockability further! The ARCTIC MX-3 is a metal-free, non-electrically conductive compound which does not cause any damage of the components if it is accidentally spilled out on them. It eliminates any risks of short circuit and provides more protection to the CPUs, graphic cards and other applications between power semiconductor components and heatsinks. The ARCTIC MX-3 is a truly hassle-free premium thermal compound you can rely on

I put this MX-3 paste on my GX640's GPU, CPU, and GDDR5 RAM(replaced thermal pads). My temps dropped 12c! :)
I knew it would be good, but not that good! A+++

I'm using an AMD HDZ940XCGIBOX Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition 3.0GHz Cache 8MB AM2+ 125W Processor - Retail. At the time of application, it was overclocked from 3.0ghz at 1.25 volts to 3.5ghz at 1.45 volts.

Using Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound, 3.5 Grams, running the AMD Overdrive stability test would reach temps of about 58c.

After applying MX-3 and starting the system up, the same tests for the same length of time yielded temps of 54c. That's a reduction of FOUR DEGREES... over ARCTIC SILVER 5! I have since overclocked it further to 3.6ghz at 1.5 volts. Temps reach about what they used to, using the lower clocks and voltage.

That's pretty damned impressive, imo. This is fully worth the money. Buy it, right now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to work with, July 2, 2011

The compound is difficult to spread (I used a thin ID card, a scraper etc...), it sticks to the spreading tool making it difficult to cover an entire area (and I tried over a half dozen times). I was still able to bring down my GPU temps by applying this compound so it is good but just difficult to work with.
