Editorial Reviews

Review

“In Jeff Jones’s masterly landscapes of the Arctic I find a majestic peace and a powerful call to action to protect this sanctuary of wildlife and wildness. This book beautifully showcases a pristine land caught in the crosshairs of the greatest of human calamities, including global climate change and the grim search for energy resources.”

(Art Wolfe Art Wolfe's Travels to the Edge)

“Jeff Jones has an exceptional talent for capturing ‘big sky’ landscapes. . . . Accompanied by informative and easy-to-read text that describes the images and the region written by Laurie Hoyle, this is a book you can read, savor and enjoy again and again. Arctic Sanctuary: Images of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge published by the University of Alaska Press is a visual delight and a book I can highly recommend to nature lovers, landscape photographers and those who care about the environment.”
(Rick Braveheart Great American Landscape)

A fantastic tour of one of our most valuable wild places. Here in brilliant photos is the reason for preserving our legacy to the future. I want to frame every photo and put them on the wall! If you can't go see the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR as the politicians refer to it) buy this book and walk through the pages to grasp the grandeur of one of the last pristine places on earth! If you have the opportunity to see his show of these photos in huge panoramic mountings you should.

Jeff Jones' images and Laurie Hoyle's short commentary essays are poetic and educational. They help us understand the varied natural features one can encounter from diverse ecozones in our vast arctic refuge. This is a book with spectacular landscape photographs from different vantage points and seasons.

I heard Jeff give a presentation at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. He is obviously very passionate about ANWR and the book is filled with beautiful photographs. After seeing his photos, there is no way you cannot want to preserve this valuable national and natural resource.
