I saw these people at Spaceland recently and they are pretty cool. It's a great band from Los Angeles that more people need to get to know. They are the perfect band for Sympathy For The Record Industry. The cover of the album looks like it was taken at Long John's house. He supposedly has a cool art collection. I love the Egon Schiele drawings in the booklet. "Meet Your Demise" is very exemplary. They remind me of another band that started out on this label: The White Stripes. This record is full of exciting moments. The song "Vagabondage" is a true journey into the unknown. This album is an explosive drama. There are quiet and loud statements of youthful energy. The Willowz are undeniable. They are fine. Every song is entertaining and fun. Jessica Reynoza is wonderful to look at onstage. This is more evidence of the new LA scene that is taking over. We like to drive around in cars, hang out with Paris Hilton, but we like cool tunes too. The Willowz are a band on the rise.

At it's heart, this album is simply a fun rock record. Not incredibly complex or difficult, just easy. A little pop/indie/punk/alternative/garage rock all thrown in for something I view as far superior to the two follow up albums from The Willowz. Definitely a recommended buy.

Pop the box and you see an Egon Schiele drawing, an attenuated early modernist nude wearing her anxieties on her skin. It's a fitting visual reference, for the Willowz are a nervous band, also a raw, ambitious, self-challenging, brilliant and perplexing one. They have great hooks, a gift for casually tossing off little bits of humor and beauty, and this timeless unselfconscious quality that's easier heard than described. In the bland stew of indie rock, the Willowz are a toothsome morsel. (review from Scram Magazine #21)
