as a children's librarian for a large public library i get to buy thousands a books every year and i often turn to school library journal for reviews. i was so surprised at their pan of this book though. i loved it and i think it would be a fantastic read aloud. the illustrations may be a little flat but the rhyme and humor more than make up for it. a lot of libraries don't buy books that get marginal reviews in slj--i hope people will request that their local library get this one. it's a gem!

Makings of a classic. Great for kids and adults. Beautiful graphics. Let's face it, the holidays can be rough . . . even for Santa. Perfect gift for the seasonally overwhelmed. Gave this book to the grumpy Santa in my life with an I.O.U. for batches of cookies . . . doing my part to be nice.

This an awesome book, so funny! I read it in both Kindergarten and 1st graders and they loved it. Even my pre-schooler loves it. An all time favorite in my house, even in the summer!

This had my preschooler "rolling in the aisles" so-to-speak. We love this book and would love to see more like it. It was hardly awkward...it was a ton of fun! I think anyone who doesn't like this one must just be in need of one good un-grump-ification!

We bought this through a Schoolastic book drive at our pre-school for my 4-year old twins. They cannot get enough of it and us grown-ups love reading it too! -sometimes 3 times a day!

I purchased this book and read it to a first grade class at our school. The students really loved this book and we shared some cookies at the end. Great book!!!

I'm getting it for all my "mother friends" right away! To read this with your children is such a hoot! My kids were giggling nonstop!

My kids absolutely crack up when they read it! It presents this adorable, funny side to Santa that I can relate to as a grown-up in the real world. It's a delightful story and the illustrations are comletely endearing!

This book passes the Matthew test. I can't get him to go to bed for anything. But my son has asked me to read this book to him four nights in a row and he laughs harder and harder each time! At this rate, he will start hopping into bed at 6 o'clock just to hear this for his bedtime story! I highly recommend this book!

First, I must admit that my two year-old son loves this book. We read it every night this year through the Christmas season. It's funny and the graphics are appealing (if a little amateurish). Now, for the not so nice part of the review. I "fix" the text as I read the book to him. There are a couple of awkward and several clumsy rhymes throughout the book. I think the School Library Journal had it right in their review as it pertains to the text. I do recommend the book for a preschool audience, as it is a hit with my son. Make sure that you do not purchase the board book version, however, as it omits 4 pages from the first edition. My son's favorite graphic, Santa being chased by the bulls in Pamplona, is absent from the board book (the text is included in the book, but the image is missing). We checked out the original edition of the book from the library and then bought the board book. We were a little disappointed in the missing pages (2 of which contain text that was omitted completely in the board book configuration), but the board book was significantly cheaper, so I guess we should have expected a trade-off.
