5.0 out of 5 stars It's a lot of fun,
Hi well to start I LOVE THIS GAME!!! I was excited when we got it cause I like the show but this is more fun then the show. Cause you get to be in it and I love how you can cheat off the other players. Like when I'm stuck on a question I can cheat off my parents and sometimes the other way around. But anyway I wish there were actuall people on the moving pieces instead of...

The instructions for this game are very confusing. Once we thought we had the rules figured out, we decided that the rules were stupid. Only one person plays at a time until they answer incorrectly, or win the game. If you answer incorrectly, then you can't win. If you win, the games over.

We decided to just take turns asking questions, and made up our own rules. The questions were quite easy for the adults, until we got to 5th grade. My 5th grade daughter could answer most of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade questions, and some of the 4th and 5th.

If you're okay with inventing your own rules, then it is fun and not too expensive.

The game was confusing at first, because the rules are not explained well. We ended up just making up our own rules, because it is not fun to just have one person answer the whole time. We don't play it that much and I believe it is in a closet now. I would rather have the tv version than the board game.

It's not as much fun as the tv show, but it comes close. However, this is a game that you need at least four people to have fun. I tried it with two people and it's just not as good. Great family game.

The problem is it doesn't really play like the TV game and that's what people want. And you have to read the cards through red plastic to reveal the answer -- how low-tech can you get? We weren't very happy and ended up just reading the questions to one another.

1.0 out of 5 stars Meritless Garbage, December 27, 2008

I bought this for my sister and brother-in-law; it was a terrible gift. It was hardly like the show. It wasn't fun. The instructions were convoluted and unclear. The rules were stupid. The questions were often poorly worded or too open-ended for a single answer. SOME OF THE QUESTIONS WERE IN THE WRONG CATEGORIES. There weren't very many questions. There was no way to walk away early and keep say 500,000 dollars, and if you lost you didn't get 25,000 as long as you'd made it that far, like in the show. This combined with the fact that one person goes at a time makes it barely a competition at all.
There is no reason why this game should cost more than 5 dollars. Hasbro can't have put much thought or effort into making it. They are simply selling a piece of junk to suckers like me by using the name of a popular game show.

4.0 out of 5 stars Questions Portions - Great Design & Great Fun, Rest Makes No Sense, February 4, 2008
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? Game (Toy)
The TV show is fun for the whole family and the questions portion of the game is great fun - it's rare to find a game that both a 4-year old, an 8-year old and adults can all enjoy - since they did a real nice job of dividing out the questions by age group and it's hilarious for adults to try to remember what a denominator is :-)

Of course, as a board game, you cannot replicate a panel of kids as your "help" buddies but the way they came up with a substitute gmaeplay makes very little sense. They should have kept the game nice and simple instead of trying to re-invent the TV experience and failing. So, like most people, I think you'll invent new rules for your family - it would be pointless & complicated to explain how they want you to play this game but again, you can skirt around and stick to the questions and just hand out the money prizes.

The questions are divided by grade group and then by color and the questions are great. They are all a good test of knowledge from ages 4-10 but it is for kids who like retaining knowledge and um, smart - because if they don't love reading, studying, math, history, geography, etc ... this is not really that easy of a game as they have to pull out paper and do math problems and spell and so forth but smart kids will love it as they get to show off so know the kids who you are buying this for ...

And it's fun for families as there are definitely things that your 3rd grader will have just learned but you cannot remember anymore :-)

But you will have to make up your own gameplay rules as the design of the game itself makes very little sense or rather, it's way more complicated than it has to be when they could've just simply substituted moving pieces up & down a row or something to indicate progress in the game ... so, questions - smart, and concept - great. As a gameboard, poorly thought out but you can easily make your own family rules ... and you will rapidly run out of question/answer cards though - hope they add new answer packs quickly.

A great family game and fun play for smart kids.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Design, January 2, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? Game (Toy)
The cards come with a little cover so you can read the answers, like the old red glasses you would get in a cereal box. The cover was too small for the cards so the cards tore when you tried to slide them through it. We ended up cutting it in half. The rules are overcomplicated for such a simple game. It works well if you use it with a tally system and a room full of slightly inebriated adults.
