Although it's been two years since the last official Jeffrey Lewis album, 2009's Em Are I, Jeffrey Lewis has been very busy. Amazon.com put this album in their "Outstanding 2009 Albums You Might Have Missed" list. And deservedly so. Though forgotten in most (if not all) "Best of 2009" lists, this album, which I bought on release in vinyl form, is a very satisfying collection of well-crafted, reasonably lo-fi indie pop-rock songs with twists. Twists such as a child choir and a trumpet solo here and there if my memory serves me well. I should mention witty lyrics but I'm not sure I've got enough qualifications for that. The guy gained some cult-ish notoriety with a previous album of covers of Crass songs. Crass being a legendary UK anarcho-punk band from way back when. I also bought that album from which "Punk Is Dead" is perhaps the best track. Seriously, you can't let this LP sink without trace from your memories of 2009.

If you ever get a shot, go and see Jeffery live and you'll be in for a treat. In terms of his newest album, it's slightly more polished for Mr. Lewis BUT it's chock full of his kind of goodness.
