This is an excellent book for a new reader. The wording is simple and easy to understand describing the life cycle of a dragonfly and the illustrations are quite beautiful. I gave this book to my 7 year old grandson and he loves it! I plan to buy more books in this informative, interesting series. I highly recommend it!!

I got this book for my wife who is taking a summer class on developing curriculum for the preschool class room, and part of the development process was to write an informational book on a subject for the children to "discover things in their own backyard." The teacher of the class recommended this book as a guideline for the type and structure of their own book they needed to write due to how well it presented the information in the form of a story. We checked the facts and they seem to be accurate but still very appealing to preschool children, my wife has been in education for 35 years and we learned a few new facts about dragon flies ourselves. If this book is any indication of how well written the other books are in the series, she said, "she will want more of them to use in the class room." Thank you Amazon, Judy Allen and Tudor Humphries (Authors) of "Are you a Dragonfly?" (Backyard Books) for bringing us this wonderful series of books to educate children and getting them to the people at a very reasonable price.

We love this book, as well as the others in the series. A perfect mixture of learning and fun. I even learned things about dragonflies I didn't know.

I bought 5 books from this publisher, on 5 different life cycles and read them to my students who were confused with the stories. Also, the information in these books are not accurate!!!!!!!!!!! This book claims the dragonfly has 2 wings, where National Geographic claims 4 wings. This was very confusing to my students as I read to them and I had to "wing it;)" and explain to them that they have 2 pairs of wings that equaled to 4. Would not recommend these books. National Geographic, Time and Scholastic are more accurate, realistic and colorful.

We have ordered the majority of the Backyard books for our daughter who loves science. Good explanation, fair illustrations. Has been great for preschooler, early elementary age child regarding understanding material and encouraging interest in science. Our favorites are "Are you a Ladybug" and "Are you a Butterfly" but all books have been informative and fun to read! We have even learned quite a bit as parents and one of us actually has a science background.

This book and its companions are great for kids to really learn the details about bugs, bees, spiders, etc. We were in New Mexico and my grandson was very fascinated with dragonflies. The illustrations are quite well done too.

This little science book teaches about the life cycle of the dragonfly and a little of its history. It does this by pointing out the differences between dragonflies and humans (humans never have to worry about being eaten by a duck). It starts by asking the title question.

Insects have often been thought of as fascinating for boys and scary for girls and I wonder if that had anything to do with the creation of this book. I wonder because all of the children pictured are girls.

My daughter was intrigued by the book and had me read it several times. I do not know if the interest will stick and have more readings requested or not. One can only think that the series as a whole is best suited for libraries with only the favorite creature or two being purchased for the home.

Whether you decide to borrow or buy is up to you but I am sure you will find the book well laid out and informative.
