This is an excellent book for a new reader. The wording is simple and easy to understand describing the life cycle of a dragonfly and the illustrations are quite beautiful. I gave this book to my 7 year old grandson and he loves it! I plan to buy more books in this informative, interesting series. I highly recommend it!!

We love this book, as well as the others in the series. A perfect mixture of learning and fun. I even learned things about dragonflies I didn't know.

Seems Aimed At Girls,

This review is from: Are You a Dragonfly? (Backyard Books) (Paperback)
This little science book teaches about the life cycle of the dragonfly and a little of its history. It does this by pointing out the differences between dragonflies and humans (humans never have to worry about being eaten by a duck). It starts by asking the title question.
Insects have often been thought of as fascinating for boys and scary for girls and I wonder if that had anything to do with the creation of this book. I wonder because all of the children pictured are girls. My daughter was intrigued by the book and had me read it several times. I do not know if the interest will stick and have more readings requested or not. One can only think that the series as a whole is best suited for libraries with only the favorite creature or two being purchased for the home. Whether you decide to borrow or buy is up to you but I am sure you will find the book well laid out and informative.

We have ordered the majority of the Backyard books for our daughter who loves science. Good explanation, fair illustrations. Has been great for preschooler, early elementary age child regarding understanding material and encouraging interest in science. Our favorites are "Are you a Ladybug" and "Are you a Butterfly" but all books have been informative and fun to read! We have even learned quite a bit as parents and one of us actually has a science background.
