About the Author

Gayle Carline is a typical Californian, meaning that she was born somewhere else. She moved to Orange County from Illinois in 1978, and landed in Placentia a few years later. Her husband, Dale, bought her a laptop for Christmas in 1999 because she wanted to write. A year after that, he gave her horseback riding lessons. When she bought her first horse, she finally started writing. Gayle soon became a regular contributor to Riding Magazine, and in March, 2005, she began writing a humor column for her local newspaper, the Placentia News-Times. Every week, she entertains readers with stories of her life with Dale and their son, Marcus. Believing that she should experience reincarnation while she is still alive, Gayle has been a software engineer, a dancer, and even a flying angel for the Crystal Cathedral’s Glory of Christmas. In her spare time, Gayle likes to sit down with friends and laugh over a glass of wine. And maybe plan a little murder and mayhem.

More About the Author

Gayle Carline is a typical Californian, meaning that she was born somewhere else. She moved to Orange County from Illinois in 1978, and landed in Placentia a few years later.

Her husband, Dale, bought her a laptop for Christmas in 1999 because she wanted to write. A year after that, he gave her horseback riding lessons. When she bought her first horse, she finally started writing.

Gayle began writing journalistic pieces for California Riding Magazine, then quickly added "humor columnist" to her resume with a weekly column in her local newspaper, the Placentia News-Times. What she really wanted to do was write mysteries, however, so in 2009 she crossed that off her list with the first of her Peri Minneopa mysteries.

Never at a loss for words or stories, she will continue to write as long as the ideas keep popping into her head. In her spare time, Gayle likes to sit down with friends and laugh over a glass of wine. And maybe plan a little murder and mayhem for the next novel.

I really expected to like this book, since I had read and liked one of the authors' Peri Minneopa mystery novels, and another reviewer compared her to the late Erma Bombeck. Generally I really enjoy these short anecdotal pieces, but I found getting through this book to be a laborious process. Very few of the pieces struck me as funny. This is not to say that were all absolutely boring, there just seemed to be an element of sameness about many of them.
On the plus side, the book is well edited and the author writes quite well. Her sense of humor and mine just do not mesh, which doesn't make this a bad book, just not a book that is to my taste. I did, however, very much enjoy the writings of Erma Bombeck, and in my opinion, this author is definitely not in the same league.

I did not care for this book. This author is not funny, in my opinion the book is just silly. There wasn't an original thought in the part of the book that I read. Some people might like it if they have not read Erma's books but it is not for me.

This is the 2d or 3d kindle book by Gayle Carline that I have read. I truly enjoy her wit and ways of viewing life and all it encompasses in the same vein that Erma (my humor hero) used to! Looking forward to more, more more!

Very entertaining. Laughed out loud many times. Her descriptions of family life and her community are priceless. For fun, try it.
