2.0 out of 5 stars Derivative and off-key "darkwave", December 29, 2005
This review is from: Are You Weightless (Audio CD)
Let's put the inevitable, obvious (and tedious) comparisons to Depeche Mode aside for a moment. Xero/G's Are You Weightless is, pun intended, weightless. The arrangements (all synths) are standard without anything original or interesting standing out. It's utterly derivative. You've heard it all before and most of us with a mid-priced synth could come up with equally mundane stuff. But that's not what kills it for me (I usually enjoy such stuff for, at least, background to everyday life)- the vocals (female) are amateurish. As much as I hate to be harsh and insulting, this singer should keep it in the shower and/or car. She has no range, no style, and, worst of all, no ear. If you have any sense of pitch (which the singer and producer apparently have not), this music may even make you cringe a bit. In a word, and to my disappointment, this artist is BLAH.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great synthpop, December 25, 2004

This is a great CD by a new "new wave" band. Dreamy female vocals enhance the music. I love Run, and here is a statement that will aggravate classic rock fans, but who cares. Xero G's all-synthesized cover of The Who's Baba O'Reilly dwarfs the original! Ok, now that I have fans of The Who up in arms... Long live the Synthesizer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Synth pop...new genre to me....and I love it!!!, December 1, 2004
This review is from: Are You Weightless (Audio CD)
Your eclectic listener is still finding new stuff to listen to! Isn't that fun? It is for me, especially when I find myself in a musical rut, where I can't find anything new.

So, here we have my latest addition to synthpop/new wave/darwave, whatever you want to call it. Right now, it's my "electronic cool" genre. Miss Kittin kinda fits in here and so does Peaches, but this stuff is still a bit different.

Xero/G.

"Gale Winds" starts off with wind instruments. Which is odd, but strangely cool. Then it reverts into it's electronic spot and becomes one of my favorite songs! It's upbeat, and I have to say that the vocals on this CD rock! It's interesting. And very fresh.

I know I have heard the song "Remember" somewhere. I can't place it, but it's a great song, dark and very moving. You can dance to this stuff too...and the music gets stuck in your head a LOT. At least for me, but maybe that's just because I'm impressionable.

*chuckles*

One of the brigher songs, is "Baba O'Reilly". It's strangely happy sounding, and it's just really neat. I can't describe this kind of music very well, simply because it's very unique.
