Derivative and off-key "darkwave",
This review is from: Are You Weightless (Audio CD)
Let's put the inevitable, obvious (and tedious) comparisons to Depeche Mode aside for a moment. Xero/G's Are You Weightless is, pun intended, weightless. The arrangements (all synths) are standard without anything original or interesting standing out. It's utterly derivative. You've heard it all before and most of us with a mid-priced synth could come up with equally mundane stuff. But that's not what kills it for me (I usually enjoy such stuff for, at least, background to everyday life)- the vocals (female) are amateurish. As much as I hate to be harsh and insulting, this singer should keep it in the shower and/or car. She has no range, no style, and, worst of all, no ear. If you have any sense of pitch (which the singer and producer apparently have not), this music may even make you cringe a bit. In a word, and to my disappointment, this artist is BLAH.

Great synthpop,

This is a great CD by a new "new wave" band. Dreamy female vocals enhance the music. I love Run, and here is a statement that will aggravate classic rock fans, but who cares. Xero G's all-synthesized cover of The Who's Baba O'Reilly dwarfs the original! Ok, now that I have fans of The Who up in arms... Long live the Synthesizer!

Your eclectic listener is still finding new stuff to listen to! Isn't that fun? It is for me, especially when I find myself in a musical rut, where I can't find anything new.
So, here we have my latest addition to synthpop/new wave/darwave, whatever you want to call it. Right now, it's my "electronic cool" genre. Miss Kittin kinda fits in here and so does Peaches, but this stuff is still a bit different. Xero/G. "Gale Winds" starts off with wind instruments. Which is odd, but strangely cool. Then it reverts into it's electronic spot and becomes one of my favorite songs! It's upbeat, and I have to say that the vocals on this CD rock! It's interesting. And very fresh. I know I have heard the song "Remember" somewhere. I can't place it, but it's a great song, dark and very moving. You can dance to this stuff too...and the music gets stuck in your head a LOT. At least for me, but maybe that's just because I'm impressionable. *chuckles* One of the brigher songs, is "Baba O'Reilly". It's strangely happy sounding, and it's just really neat. I can't describe this kind of music very well, simply because it's very unique.

Good music, flat singing,

While overall I do like this CD, it has interesting composition and beats that don't fall into the repetitive realm like some electro does and it's even very dreamy. I like the singer's attempts but I have to point our her singing is very flat at times, something I hear in many corny female sung goth music. She needs to stop singing in all of her low ranges as it's limiting the stuff she could be performing.
If it wasn't for the singer's flatness, I would have given thes album 4 stars instead of 3. For those into the new type of sythy music and somehat dreamy compositions I still recommend you at try this album as it's not bad at all.

This CD is simply one of the greatest that I have ever listened to. Seth and Victoria have combined to produce a tremendous sound. I haven't been this excited since Xymox "Twist of Shadows". If you like a wonderful voice, great beat, and serious synth - then this is it.
Try these 5 songs and you will see why this band will really break out. 1) Falling into Dreams - for so long and all along I have waited for this song 2) Remember - driving beat and great vocals 3) Carry On - Haunting 4) Too much - Lyrics are just too much 5) Baba O'Reiley - I don't typically like remakes but she has such a wonderful voice that Roger Daltrey would give it 2 thumbs up. They have a follow-up CD due out soon and it can't come soon enough as I can't get this CD out of my player or my head. And no I do not have anything to do with the band nor the label.

This album I took a risk on and I am very pleased. Unfortunately I also bought "sin, win, and grin" by thee human ego maniacs, which is repusive idiotic club goth music. don't buy that one. however this unique gem from xero/g is excellent light elctrosynthpop very reminiscent of the 80s without any goth, dark undercurrents, or pretencious attitude such as you might find with such useless bands such as vnv nation or covenant. If you like vnv nation, then go right out and buy "sin, win, and grin." but if you like the nu-wave rise of electro pop, then buy xero/g, freezepop, soviet, and the venue album when it comes out.
