Resourceful Guide to Understanding Hormones,
By PWilkerson (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Are Your Hormones Making You Sick?: A Woman's Guide To Better Health Through Hormonal Balance (Paperback)
Dr. Eldred Taylor has been my doctor for years. And after going through various female changes--I'm now over 40, he recommended that I read this book. I must say that after reading this book, I have a much better understanding of the world of hormones and how they truly affect my life. This book helped me to understand how exercise, diet, and hormones relate to feeling and being healthy. I keep this book handy as a resource guide to refer to it whenever I feel out of balance! I love the highlights or take-home points throughout the chapter.

This book is the best ever and all women should read it! Dr. Ava Taylor is a wonderful person. She happened to mention this book in a friendly telephone conversation when I said that I am "sick of feeling sick," or in the words of Fannie Lou Hamer, "Sick and tired of being sick and tired.". I was a "poster child" in relation to the symptoms in the book. Unfortunately, I did not follow up right away and lost about a month or so in my quest to feel better. In my experience, many physicians do not listen to what women are saying; therefore, we continue through life thinking that it must be mental, or that we are depressed, and wonder why. I could go on giving kudos to Dr. Taylor and this book, but I'll stop here and add one last thing. I started with the progesterone cream and I feel better already. Make sure it is USP Progesterone; read the label. Some simply use the wild yam extract, which limits the amount of progesterone that your body receives. Also, the cream delivers a higher dose than the pills/capsules. As always, it is best to speak with a physician (if you can find one who understands this). ;-) sarcastic!

Comprehensive approach for "baby boomers"!!!,

This review is from: Are Your Hormones Making You Sick?: A Woman's Guide To Better Health Through Hormonal Balance (Paperback)
As a consultant pharmacist, specializing in women's health issues, I found Drs. Taylor's book one of the best, comprehensive, while easily understandable books that I have recently reviewed. I am dismayed to see this book listed currently as "unavailable" through Amazon, as I am now averaging 6 recommendations of this title to my patients daily. Amazon, you best order more copies!!!!

This book changed my life.,

This review is from: Are Your Hormones Making You Sick?: A Woman's Guide To Better Health Through Hormonal Balance (Paperback)
This book changed my life. After several years of feeling awful, tired, fatigued, depressed, gaining weight, experiencing dizzy spells, and being told by my primary physician that nothing was wrong with me, I started researching what the problem could be. This book explained it all.
Dr. Taylor understands the complex hormonal systems in the human body - at a level beyond traditional / conventional medicine. He understands that weight gain is more than "calories in = calories out." The body is much more complex that that simplistic view. Many more factors are involved. Being tired and depressed is more than "you're getting older" or "you need an antidepressant." Most doctors today are only symptom relievers - they do not SOLVE or FIX the problem. After reading this book, I suspected that I had issues with neurotransmitters, cortisol, the hypothalamus, and other hormonal issues. I am lucky enough to live in Atlanta and went to see Dr. Taylor himself. After thorough testing via saliva tests and multiple blood tests (36 of them), the issues were identified and I am on the road to optimal health without prescription medications. I am chemical free, my hormones are in balance, and I feel and look 10 years younger! If you feel like your conventional doctor is not listening or looking hard enough for the problem, and you KNOW you are sick, look deeper and change doctors!

Hormonal Help,
By Barbara L. Smith (Tucker, Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Are Your Hormones Making You Sick?: A Woman's Guide To Better Health Through Hormonal Balance (Paperback)
Finally, a doctor who understands that women DON'T always understand how their bodies work. As a home health R.N., I can attest to that fact....and women need to pay attention to what they are putting into their bodies and why. This book is a wonderful "primer" or way for a woman to start on a road to better health. Nothing can be more frustrating that being a woman who knows "something just isn't right with me" and having a doctor prescribe synthetic drugs...only to find out you are worse off than before you started the drugs. Here is an answer to that maze for a woman who is truly interested in actually reclaiming her health and understanding how her body works. Saliva testing should be the route of choice for testing a woman's hormones...this book guides a woman through the process of why blood testing for your hormonal status is NOT accurate and why saliva testing IS! Women...get smart....know your bodies and how it works. Let this book be your guide to renewed health.

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing. You have immensely added to the quality of my life by helping to improve my health. You are tactful, understanding, and patient. Now it all makes sense. I've been in the healtcare field since 1984 and have had many doctors but none like you. Integrative medicine is the way to go! Your admonitions really work!!

Learning Why I Feel The Way I Do,

This review is from: Are Your Hormones Making You Sick?: A Woman's Guide To Better Health Through Hormonal Balance (Paperback)
This book took me beyond the answer to its question, with information on how to make a difference in my health. With its clinical approach, I felt I was no longer just the patient, but a person empowered with understanding of the chemical makeup of my body. Thankfully, no food plans or diet recipes are included in this book, only information on how to correct a hormonal imbalance that has been plaguing me for fourteen years. Learning is more than half the battle when I can easily implement changes in my lifestyle!

Are Your Hormones Making You Sick -- A Sure Winner,

I work in a health food store and have been researching holistic approaches to women's health issues for several years. Dr. Lee's book was very helpful, but somewhat difficult to understand. After reading Dr. Taylor's book, a lot of questions I had were easily explained and I was able to relate that information to customers in our store. There has been a need for a more detailed, but understandable book on women's hormones ... and this is it!

STRESS! We all have it and we have a tough time dealing with it. Perhaps you're stressing out from work, kids, spouse, and life in general. How you deal with these everyday situations will determine if you control your hormonal impact or allow it to "make you sick" as this book infers. And while this book is specifically geared towards women, it hits men too. But women tend to let it hit them much harder with some truly negative side effects that will leave a mark for years to come. Get stop being stressed--don't you know if you spell it backwards you get "desserts!" LOL! Chill out and enjoy life and your body will thank you for it! Get great advice from this book about how to do it.

This book explains in layman's terms the hows and whys of female hormones. It provides information that is very much lacking through your "mainstream" medical doctor. Keep an open mind and read the entire book. Remember that the advertising industry along with the A.M.A. push women to take synthetic hormones and needless drugs. There are safe, healthy alternatives for women, and this book reveals that to you.
