Product Description

The Magno Model 2 table radio is a unique combination of functionality, style, and sustainability. The radio features an AM/FM and 2 band shortwave radio with a line-out port for connecting an external audio source such as the iPod or any other MP3 player. The radio may be powered by four AA batteries (included) or a DC adapter (not included). The Magno is created by Singgih Kartono, an artist known for incorporating green-friendly practices into his designs and fabrication. Singgih manufactures products that are made from sustainable materials, socially beneficial, and an aesthetic complement to the home and office. His use of two-tone woods is not based on aesthetics alone. He chooses new growth wood due to its simplicity, organic vitality, and renewability. Additionally, he hires out-of-work farmers from his Indonesian village and trains them in the art of woodworking. To protect the radio's finish, the outer casing should be periodically polished with furniture oil. 2% of sales are donated to forest replanting activities.

1.0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! September 9, 2012
These radios are a perfect example why sustainable products have a bad name. I have never experienced such a horrible radio in my life. They suck through batteries like there's no tomorrow and if you dare to use a plug, you might as well just turn the thing off because of the extremely loud buzzing. Don't get me wrong, they look really cool. But, I don't buy a radio just to look at it. If I'm going to spend over $250 dollars (with shipping) on a radio, I expect the damn thing to work! Don't waste your money!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a radio! It's wood! November 13, 2012

I bought this radio as a birthday gift to myself a while back. I saw it on a design website and fell in love with the look. I'm a sucker for anything made out of wood, and this is definitely wood. The knobs, the case, the antenna topper - everything is wood, right down to the tiny connector cable (which I didn't expect to see, since it's not in the description). Here's what you should know:

-It picks up stations very easily. I don't have any trouble finding what I need. It switches easily between AM and FM.
-The sound is surprisingly loud, but if you don't hook it up to external speakers, there is an audible hiss. I keep my volume low so this has not been a big concern for me.
-It does NOT come with an adapter, so be prepared to pick one up at Radio Shack. Or get used to changing the batteries every now and then. For the last year I've listened to it several times a week for a few hours at a stretch. I have replaced the batteries twice.

Yes, it's expensive. I won't make any bones about the price - it's very extravagant for a radio. But if you look around online you can find it for much cheaper than the Amazon price. I found a coupon for a small boutique that gave me twenty-five percent off, plus free shipping. SO worth it, I promise. I really love this radio!
