3.0 out of 5 stars I'm interested to see what happens but..... January 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I had to contemplate this story for a while before I could think of what to write for a review and I'm still kinda feeling short for words so Im going to do this review a little different then I have done in the past.

Was the story interesting? Yes. There were some great little twists, imaginative situations and it was easy to get into.
Were the characters easy to follow and like? Yes and yes.
Was the setting likable? Yes I loved the New Orleans plantation setting.
Was the story paced well? uh kinda, there were certain times throughout the story that it tended to be a tad bit slow.
Was Arelia's best friend a total spoiled rich princess that got on my nerves? Y-E-S.
Did you like the ending? No, It didnt feel like the story was ready to end. It was just getting interesting again when all of a sudden the chapter ended and there was no more to read about. It wasn't just cliffhanger-ish but it made the story feel unfinished. It was a really cruddy place to end the book.
Will I read book 2? Maybe, I'm interested to see what happens but not overly excited to pick it up.

1.0 out of 5 stars No ending??! March 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
There is nothing more dissapointing that watching a good movie or reading a decent book, spending hours of your time, only to get to the end and discover that there is NO ENDING. Granted, the author is trying to lure the readers into buying the next book in the series, but this isn't the best way to do it. In essense, the book ends with many questions unanswered, without a conclusion of any kind, and in the middle of an unfinished conversation. Had I known this upfront, I wouldn't have wasted my time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Idea is promising, execution and editing is horrible February 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Don't get me wrong: I love this new craze of self-publication on Amazon. I myself am not a teacher, merely an avid reader, and fully enjoy reading 'on-the-cheap'. I have tried reading this book twice now, and both times stop in exasperation: The storyline seems to be interesting and a great twist in the YA Paranormal genre, but not using quotation marks, correct spelling, and proper grammar makes this book unreadable for me. I would be extremely thankful if the author could have this properly edited and re-published.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, But... March 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
(Also posted on The Magic Attic Review Blog)

I was really, really looking forward to BOUND. I haven't really read any books that took place in New Orleans and, with the mention of voodoo queens and ghosts - not to mention a gorgeous blue cover and multiple glowing, raving reviews - I was excited. Of course, I had to clear away the books in my review pile, first, which took some time. And now? I'll be blunt and say that I regret really looking forward to reading BOUND, and skipping multiple books in my review pile to do so.

Grammar was the largest issue here. Proper grammar is crucial in writing and publishing a book. After all, if a book's riddled with grammar errors, it'll make the book harder to read and understand, which will then cause those who don't have that much patience to give up and find something else to read. Proper grammar. It saves books. It saves lives. But it didn't save BOUND, because BOUND was one of the books in the 'Riddled With Grammar Errors' category I mentioned before. Just the first page was filled with grammar errors, and there was literally a one in each paragraph, if not in each line. The first page alone contains multiple comma splices, dependent clauses that somehow were left to stand on their own, missing conjunctions, missing commas, unnecessary periods, capitalization errors, and incorrectly formatted dialogue. And this is all in roughly about 400 or so words of a published story. 'Published story' is the keyword in that sentence; this type of thing shouldn't be happening. The writing also jumped around a lot, making it hard to keep up and understand. Two irrelevant subjects would be addressed in the same sentence, and the paragraphing was off.

2.0 out of 5 stars great potential unrealized September 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story is incredibly well researched. The plot is well composed and has all the elements necessary for a really good book....

However, the female protagonist is under-developed as is the male protagonist; the story is choppy, moving from one emotion to another without sufficient development although it's accurate in that teenagers are prone to such dramatic changes. Still, in a novel, such changes need a smoother transition.

This story would benefit greatly from the attention of a good editor to monitor the continuity and pacing. I think the raw talent is there, waiting to be developed.
