After the death of her dog, Barney, who had been a close companion for almost sixteen years, she felt that his spirit remained behind. A few months after his appearance, she related her experiences to Barneys veterinarian. He said that many people had confided in him about an animals return. There were many accounts where they saw, heard, felt and/or smelled their deceased pet again.
She was encouraged, and felt that she had to pursue the subject further. She conducted over 2 years of research to validate, collect, and share stories in this one of a kind book. Ms. Perry relates that she definitely was not a believer before Barneys visits, but is now eager to share these stories with anyone who will listen. Those who enjoy reading about Animals, Pets, Religious or Spiritual subjects, Inspirational, Nonfiction, and Short Stories will find something to please their tastes. Added to this are pictures, of forty-three of the animals in question, to accompany the fifty short stories. You neednt feel pressured to finish the book in one sitting but it may be difficult to stop at just one story. This book may be the only one that is devoted totally to after-death encounters with animals.
Many, who contributed to the book, found that they learned important life lessons through sharing their life with a pet. One woman was able to overcome her fear of death, while another was led on a spiritual search. One woman, in an abusive relationship, learned to value herself more when her dog intervened and took a punch meant for her. Most felt comforted and reassured by their pets visits. We hope you will enjoy and find value in these personal accounts of "animal visitations."
I feel all the animals that have shared my life have left me a legacy. They demonstrated the meaning of unconditional love, compassion, acceptance, and loyalty. After each of my pets deaths, I was better able to face my own mortality and open my mind to things that are spiritual. They were all excellent teachers.
The contributors to this book have all experienced some form of communication with their deceased pets. Some pets came in a dream or vision. Others returned in a more profound manner. Owners would get just a brief glance, hear their familiar sound, smell their fur, or have a sense of their pet in the room - that feeling that someone is staring at you, yet no one is physically there.
Sandy, one of the contributors to this book, summed it up nicely with a quote attributed to Angela Monet: "Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music."
Are you a dancer, or a listener? It is my hope that you are both. If you are not, strive to be. Your own Arf Angel or Heavenly Creature may help show you the way.
Before my dog, Barney, died, I had not experienced the return of any of my other beloved pets. Maybe, I hadnt listened or paid attention to what was going on. If something did happen, perhaps, I trivialized it to explain it away or deny it entirely.
Why dont we experience the return of all our deceased pets? I havent an explanation. In my case, I feel that each pet I owned helped me evolve spiritually and be more accepting and ready for the experience when it did happen. Whatever the reason for Barneys return, I am eternally grateful.

Different from the rest.....,
By A Customer
This review is from: Arf Angels and Other Heavenly Creatures: True Stories of Animal Visitations (Paperback)
"Now that your loved one is gone, what'll you do?" I might suggest you first buy this book. When I lost my Bitsy, besides being devastated, I had burning questions - Where was she?, Was she safe?, Is she still around?, Will I see her again?, In this lifetime?, and the all-important, Why? My search has been ongoing for the past 3 years she's been gone. I have read nearly everything available written exclusively on the spirituality of animals and their afterlife as well as many books that may contain so much as a sentence in reference to their continued existence. When I discovered Anita Perry's Arf Angels and Other Heavenly Creatures I found a vein of gold in my mining expedition. While each of the stories offer the reader comfort in that we are not alone in our grief, (and in some cases in the decisions we've been forced to make), Ms. Perry gives us stories of purpose and hope. We are given the unique opportunity to look back on a life lived with purpose, give some meaning to the painful end process and banish some of our regrets. Each story relates to us how our individual lives are changed for having had our loved ones in them. The book takes for granted the grief is as real for our animal family as it is for anyone else. No words are wasted defending a position. For that I was refreshed and grateful. It's a matter of fact that animals come into our lives for a reason. It's a matter of fact that we usually survive them and have to come to terms with losing them. It's a matter of fact that our beloved family has an afterlife and find ways to let us know they are safe, that they still love us, and are around us even still. Reading these stories has given me comfort, hope, and peace. They will you, too. Now, Ms Perry, Will they come back?

Anyone who has read the poem "Rainbow Bridge" hopes that day will come... meanwhile, reading this book gives you hope that somehow, some way, your beloved pet will always be by your side. A few months after putting my dog down and reading this book, I began to see signs and have experiences that can only mean one thing. Ask the cat.
She knows. : )

When It's Time to Say Good Bye to Your Pet,
This review is from: Arf Angels and Other Heavenly Creatures: True Stories of Animal Visitations (Paperback)
This book helped me cope with the loss of my friend/pet. It also helped me to look at death in a different way. And to help me realize that I could welcome another pet into my home. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is grieving the loss of a pet.
