Patriotic holidays Many historic events are honored in Argentina. Two main holidays mark the country's independence. On May 25, people celebrate the Anniversary of the revolution, the day in 1810 when Argentines began their battle for freedom from Spanish rule. Independence Day, on July 9, is the anniversary of the country's full independence in 1816. Both days are national holidays, celebrated with parades, political speeches, and a day off work.
