5.0 out of 5 stars Martin Turners Wishbone Ash better than Andy Powells Ash
I have been a huge fan of wishbone ash since early 70's saw them several times and I think they were at there peak when Ted Turner was with the band before Laurie W. I had all the Lp's ever made by wishbone ash and Martin was always my favorite band member mainly because I myself am a bassist and Martin Turner was always my idle bass player I copied all his style of...

2.0 out of 5 stars REMAKE THAT LACKS CREATIVITY,
This Argus release, though not throwaway, is produced in such a way that IMO it lacks a draw and inspiration. Martin has the right to play and re-record whatever music his wrote, but to re-do a classic album, that stands on its own like ARGUS, and do basically nothing but completely rehash it, smacks of laziness and apathy in my opinion, takes the p!ss, not mentioning...

This Argus release, though not throwaway, is produced in such a way that IMO it lacks a draw and inspiration. Martin has the right to play and re-record whatever music his wrote, but to re-do a classic album, that stands on its own like ARGUS, and do basically nothing but completely rehash it, smacks of laziness and apathy in my opinion, takes the p!ss, not mentioning touring and capitalizing on the success of Ash after 40 years, which Turner has not been an active part of for nearly 20 (he quit the band in 1980)...he is touring under the name (IMO illegally) "martin Turner's Wishbone Ash", and playing this album over and over and over, whilst not performing anything new or inspired...have passed a couple times on seeing Turner's band due to underwhelming reviews.

for completists only...I bought it basically out of curiosity used, being a stalwart fan of Wishbone Ash past and present, and it does nothing for me.....it seems tired and retreaded to me.

Stick with Wishbone Ash, the band still led by Andy Powell after 40 years...their power and professional playing is spot-on and professional.....and they are putting out critically acclaimed DVDs and CDs constantly....Turner is happy to rest on his laurels by rehashing 40 year old material, and IMO shows no intention of new material..

I have been a huge fan of wishbone ash since early 70's saw them several times and I think they were at there peak when Ted Turner was with the band before Laurie W. I had all the Lp's ever made by wishbone ash and Martin was always my favorite band member mainly because I myself am a bassist and Martin Turner was always my idle bass player I copied all his style of playing and learned and played all his songs in many bands, I turned alot of people & musicians on to wishbone ash. Anyway this New Martin Turners Wishbone Ash ARGUS cd reminds me of the great sound of the original wishbone ash when Ted, Andy, Martin & Steve were all together, when this cd came out I had to have it. Andys bands ok but it is not the true wishbone ash sound Martins band is! but don't take my word pick it up and check it out for yourself! Thanks Martin!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Wishbone Ash CD, October 4, 2009

This review is from: Argus: Through the Looking Glass (Audio CD)
This cd was recorded in 2009 from Martin Turners Wishbone Ash band. "Argus", is considered one of the better Wishbone Ash albums that was originally recorded in the 70's. Martin Turner's Wishbone went into the studio's in 2009 an re-recorded the entire Argus album again. Martin's vocal's still sound pretty good after all these years. You can tell they put alot of time and effort in recording this cd. The quality of the recording is great. If your a Wishbone Ash fan like myself, please pick this cd up. I am a supporter of both Wishbone Ash bands.

Andy Powell with his Wishbone Ash band, is still going strong too. I have seen the band numerous times from 1969 till today, and they still sound great. 5 star cd. If you like the original Argus cd or album, get this new cd too. You wont regret it.
