More About the Author

Scott Hilburn's cartooning career kicked off on the Web group Comic Sherpa, managed by uclick, a company affiliated with Universal Press Syndicate. Online, he was able to get feedback on his work as well as network in the field of cartooning. In Dec. 2006, Hilburn's comic panel, "Argyle Sweater," debuted on gocomics.com. A short time later, it was syndicated by Universal Press.

The Texas native has worked most of his adult life creating interactive media for telecommunication companies. He started his career at FlightSafety developing programs for flight simulators then moved on to MCI where he won a silver award for his work in interactive media. Currently Hilburn works for Fujitsu Networking Communications as a flash developer.

Hilburn has an A.A.S. (digital arts) degree in Computer Animation and Multimedia from the Art Institute of Dallas, a B.A. in Psychology and has worked toward a M.A. in Professional Counseling/Clinical Psychology from Argosy University.

A single father of two daughters, Hilburn was born in 1971 and has lived in the Dallas area all his life.

I like the calendar cartoons. I bought this last year and enjoyed it. I seems I should have saved it from last year since it is the same. This happpened in the past with Far Side. It seems a way to ripoff the consumer with no new material.

I must start of by saying that I am a long time fan of "The Far Side" comics. I have all the books, and have had a daily Far Side calendar every year since they started making them. Ever since Gary Larson retired, and Far Side calendars were no longer available, I have been looking for a replacement... I am happy to say that I have finally found one!

The "The Argyle Sweater" is a good combination of funny, smart, quirky, and twisted. Every comic is printed in bright full color, and as an added bonus there is a little "extra" on the back of every page (these can range from a joke, a quote, a word scramble, crossword puzzle, etc.) I didn't know about the extras when I ordered the calendar, so it was a nice little surprise.

I don't know if the author likes being compared to The Far Side or not, but to me it is an obvious comparison that lends itself perfectly to a daily calendar. The art style AND sense of humor in The Argyle Sweater is extremely similar to The Far Side, and is EXACTLY what I have been looking for.

I bought this calendar as a gift for a friend. It is a great buy! Our local newspaper started carrying The Arglye Sweater and I fell in love with it from the get go. The person I gave it to not only loves it but plans on keeping it intact so he can reread often. Good price, good toons, all around a great calendar. You can't go wrong if you liked the Far Side, you'll love the Argyle Sweater.
