If your boot lace malfunctions send them back and they will replace them- this happened to mine and my replacement pair has been perfect for two years now with lots of wear and tear. They're very comfortable- even with my back and ankle problems and they provide great support. I'm buying my second pair because, cosmetically I've beat mine up with near daily use. I'll still wear my first pair around our dusty ranch. They were true to my size 11M foot and comfortable with thin or heavy duty wool cold weather socks. The style looks great on every occasion.

I have had a pair of these for years (at least 5 years) and wear them for barn chores every day. I have gone through a couple of pairs of laces, but that is expected. The boots have worn great! Far better than expected! You would probably guess that the reason you would need to replace them would be wearing through the sole or maybe the sole separating from the upper. Nope. I actually wore a hole through the leather of the toe of the right boot!! I have "patched" the hole and still wear the old pair but I wanted a backup pair for rainy days. These are rugged boots. They hold up great with minimal maintenance. I clean and condition them when I do my saddles, which is not too often but probably helped prolong their life. My old pair was a 7.5 and that is the size I ordered in the new ones but they ended up being too big. Thanks to Amazon's easy (and free!) returns, I was able to get the 7's at no extra cost and they fit great. Like others have mentioned, the fringed tongue things are removable, and that is the first thing I did on the new ones. This is an excellent quality boot for a great price! I expect these boots to last me at least 5 years like the others did. Breaking it down, that is ~$20 a year for boots! That's a bargain! Granted, they don't look the same after 5 years, but they are perfectly functional and the horses don't care what my boots look like!!

Absolutely love them!! NO break in period. I have bunions and the wide fit my troublesome feet perfectly - lots of room in the toe box!! Ample room for heavy socks in the winter.Dressy enough to wear to work. Soles are non-slip on slick office floors. Love the distressed brown - very soft and comfortable.

I have a black pair of these currently and just got the distressed brown also when my old ones finally just got more distressed than I want for everyday wear (although they are still in great shape for grungy uses) - I've worn these for years and years, because they are never out of style, work with absolutely everything (from jeans to skirts to shorts, everything), and one pair of shiny black, one distressed brown plus a pair of nice flat leather sandals is all the shoes I ever need. They last forever, are super comfortable, and they work with every look in every situation. I do take the fringe piece out as soon as I get my hands on them - the last ones I used to make jewelry but I don't care for them on the boots. (If you haven't worn these before, you should know that the fringe piece is just held in by the laces and is removable.)
They're a little pricier than the fashion-oriented equivalents, but believe me, they are so worth the little bit extra.

I followed the advice in the description and ordered a half size smaller than my street shoes. Perfect in length. However, they are what I would consider narrow. The M was squeezing the life out of my foot, so I sent them back. They provided return shipping and sent me out my new pair quickly. The W is much better for me, though I don't normally wear a wide anything. These are very comfortable.

I'm walking around a warehouse most of my day, so I'm standing and walking quite a bit on concrete. I have back problems so I figured I couldn't wear these to work, WRONG. I can wear them on a full shift and still go shopping later feeling fine.

I love them and wear them almost daily with jeans. The distressed leather does get scuffed up but they are boots. I am really enjoying mine (worn them regularly for about 3 weeks now).

I recommend them! These are my first ever lacer boots also.

First, I always wear a medium (B size) in all my shoes & boots. Because of the reviews, I decided to go with the C/D (wide) size. Even with going to the wide (C/D) these are still narrow across the instep. I'm not sure whether I want to take a chance that they will stretch out enough to fit comfortably. For that reason, I will probably send them back. I do like the ankle support a lot on these boots & the quality build seems better than the Heritage Lacer III boot.

Great style and fit. Yes, I agree, you will go down half a size. I always wear 8 or even 8.5 in shoes, but in Ariat, I am a 7.5. I have hard to fit wide feet, and would have no break in period in these boots.

The leather upper is good enough quality; both chocolate and black look rich enough for $120 boots.

But I cannot accept the poor cheap rubbery heel material. They even did horizontal stripes on the heel to make it look like a stacked leather heel. But it just looks CRAPPY.

If they put in a better looking heel, I definitely would have kept them. They are made in China - the heel is definitely a cut corner measure. Maybe I should look for a vintage version on Ebay.

I tried on Ariat $200 and over boots: there, they use much, much nicer leather, and great heel material, made in Mexico which has a rich Western leather shoe tradition. Maybe $120 only buys this level quality.

As for heel support, it's moderate, and not anywhere near hiking boots-level. Leather is not stiff enough around the ankles if that's what you're looking for.
