This is a beautiful, one of a kind debut poetry book by Laura Schultz, complete with color photos throughout.

Laura has a unique and rare depth to her poetry that reaches past the boundaries of self. She wields her paintbrush of colorful words and creates a vivid tapestry of beautiful emotions. She gently guides you down the hidden pathways of her heart, leading into the canyons of her sould, bringing you face to face with your own psyche.

This book boasts 16 color photographs reproduced on top quality paper. The author's mother Ruth Rudof Schultz' paintings appear throughout the book to accent some of the poems as do photographs by Anton Mueller.

Quite honestly, this is a must have book for the libraries of eclectic and discerning "Poetry Book Collectors".

About the Author

AN INTRODUCTION BY THE AUTHOR:

This collection of poems is about love, loss and transformation that came out of the personal struggles in my life. After countless attempts to cope with and understand those struggles, I found that poetry was the only way I could make sense of and ultimately rise above them. I heard many similar stories from others about their inner turmoil and suffering. But when we shared poetry, we felt a deeper sense of kinship on a more soulful level.

For me, poetry is a profound expression of the soul and reflective of my philosophy about life, poetry and writing in general. The title Arise and Shine: Laments of the Darkness, Songs of the Light expresses my belief that most of us can transcend our personal struggles and how we may conquer our greatest fears. This book illuminates the duality and illusions of opposites... the dark and ...the light.

This book is a visual journey through poems that range from Solitary Tears to Transfiguration and every transformative experience along the path to the formation of a personal presence through the power of one s voice. The purpose of writing it was to provide both enjoyment and inspiration to those who have or will encounter challenges as well as those who have overcome them. For those of us who have wrestled their inner demons and triumphed in the end, I believe you might relate to the losses and overcoming them that are contained herein. I also trust that this collection of poems can provide guidance and hope to those still struggling to find their unique voice.

As a licensed psychotherapist for over 25 years, I ve witness firsthand a myriad of broken relationships, depression, addiction and the correlating sorrow involved for all concerned. I, too, struggled with my own issues with depression and serious physical challenges as well as lost love and deep sorrow. Though over the years, I have facilitated positive outcomes for people in crisis, I decided to write about these challenges and my own as a universal via verse.

I hope you enjoy the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars fugue of opposites, November 28, 2011
This review is from: Arise and Shine: Laments From The Darkness, Songs Of The Light (Perfect Paperback)
Ms. Schultz provides us with a theme of how opposites weave in our lives. Solitude and conjoined souls, despair and arousal, and sadness and light. These opposites form a Bach fugue, appearing again and again with different twists enriching our lives with the music of words. We all go through these phases of certainty and confusion. Thoroughly enjoyable.
