5.0 out of 5 stars Ragnarok's Best Work., September 10, 2007
By
This review is from: Arising Realm (Audio CD)
Ragnarok has been there though all of the black metal scene, from their demo to backdoor miracle... it's all great stuff.

But in my honest opinion, with all the synth, with all the melody and traditional "grimness", this is definitely their best album.

If you like For All Tid, the ORIGINAL Stormblast, etc. than you'll love this album.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Got me into black/gothic metal, August 9, 2004
This review is from: Arising Realm (Audio CD)
I bought this album mistakenly believing it was a power metal band. When I first heard it, it obviously wasn't what I expected...screeching, growling, with the fastest guitar work I'd ever heard. It took a few listens for it to grow on me, but when it did, I realized that there is something to the music on this disc: it is powerful music that just wouldn't sound right with melodic vocals. The intro is slow at first, but builds up to the crushing "God is Wasted". This is a good introduction to the speed and melody of the band, as well as the deep-throated vocals. "Searching for my Dark Desire" continues in the same vein, but delivers even more power. "Time Before Birth of Life" begins with a memorable riff, as does "My Hate is His Spirit" before dissolving back into the status quo of speedy guitarwork, though the latter song has a keyboard interlude to break up the monotony a little. "My Refuge in Darkness" is probably my favorite, though by this time the long growl of the singer at the beginning of the song is getting old. The album ends on a great note with "For the World I am Blinded" and the Outro. All in all a very solid black metal album. Its only flaw is it does get monotonous towards track 7 onward.
