Automatic is Nice, December 15, 2003
This review is from: Arista 4 x 1 Automatic A/V Selector (Electronics)
I purchased this item based on very little information, and was pleasantly surprised at its function. First of all, it has the S-Video option. With most TVs and Receivers only having a few inputss for S-video, it was nice to use a selector with one. Second, all inputs and the output are on the back. This makes for a nice look instead of having multiple cables lying around. But the best part of this selector is the fact that it is automatic. Once you turn on the device plugged into one of the inputs, the selector automatically switches to that station. Instead of remembering if your Gamecube is plugged into input three or four, the selector switches for you. Pros: S-Video 4 inputs Great Price Input/Output on Back Cons: Only one device on at a time Always on and searching for signal All in all this selector is the way to go for the price and the function.

Great if you like the sound of static in the background!, February 13, 2008
This review is from: Arista 4 x 1 Automatic A/V Selector (Electronics)
Yeah, get what you pay for is the phrase that comes to mind. As a musician, hearing (VERY audible) static in the background of my compositions ranks right up there on the enjoyment scale between chewing aluminum foil and vigorously rubbing cheese graters against my ears. I tried everything, ran each device plugged into it individually one at a time on each port, replaced AV cables with known good cables on every port, nothing worked. Static. So on the off chance that the problem might be with my top of the line music equipment that has never gave me any problems prior, I bypassed this unit. Magicly the static dessapeared! Don't know what that tells you, but to me the verdict is pretty clear. One piece of advise to the Arista company, I have a great "buzzword" for you to consider. QUALITY CONTROL! Having worked on electronics assembly lines as a kid, I'd bet 10 to 1 that the problem is some poor underpaid assembly line worker who solders the same one or two connections thousands of times a day was trying to catch up with the assembly line and in his/her haste made a cold solder on the audio output. The video side works fantastic, but audio was another story. UGLY, horrific static on every channel. My guess is poor assembly standards. The design seems to be very good, but either poor assembly or cheap materials wreck the functionality. NOT happy at all with this product.

Almost does the job, March 14, 2006
This review is from: Arista 4 x 1 Automatic A/V Selector (Electronics)
Bought this to replace a dead Radio Shack switch which was a 4 input 2 output device with learning IR (uses any remote control). I correctly figured that the auto-sensing inputs would be a fine replacement over the learning remote feature of my previous switch. It's nice that this device doesn't introduce yet another remote control into my house like other products in this price range. S-Video out only displayed black-and-white on my HDTV for some reason. Composite video worked fine.
