A fantastic series for middle school state reports!
Wow, wow, wow . . . there is really a lot to know about Arizona. Did you know that the first inhabitants of Arizona arrived more than 12,000 years ago? It wasn't until 1250-1450 that the Navaho and Apache tribes arrived on the scene. Author was asleep at the keyboard. Editors, too.
This edition omits any mention of Barringer Crater (Meteor Crater) -- the best -preserved meteoric impact crater in the world, and the most easily accessible and a huge tourism attraction, located just south of Hwy 40 between Flagstaff and Holbrook. Absolutely no reference on maps or in the text of the 4200 ft wide, 570 foot deep crater caused by the impact of a giant...

Wow, wow, wow . . . there is really a lot to know about Arizona. Did you know that the first inhabitants of Arizona arrived more than 12,000 years ago? It wasn't until 1250-1450 that the Navaho and Apache tribes arrived on the scene. There is a time line in this book that travels from the ice age right up to the time the Arizona Diamondbacks won the World Series and beyond. This marvelous book is jam-packed full of comprehensive, educational material.The reader can find Geo-Facts, information about the topography, FAQs, a time line, mini-bios, "WOW Factors" (unusual tidbits), a travel guide, projects, resources and much more. The chapters include: 1) Land 2) First People 3) Exploration and Settlement 4) Growth and Change 5) More Modern times 6) People 7) Government 8) Economy and 9) Travel Guide. Absolutely no reference on maps or in the text of the 4200 ft wide, 570 foot deep crater caused by the impact of a giant meteor 50,000 years ago -- one of the world's greatest and most astonishing natural features.Yet, for some reason, the author and editors agree that the vocalist Linda Ronstadt is one of the state's great assets. Wierd priorities. |
