5.0 out of 5 stars Ethereal!
This is an incredible soundtrack loaded with emotions and feelings ranging from the sweet melodies of "Childhood" to the sound of "Death"! 3.0 out of 5 stars Awesome instrumental tracks, terrible vocal tracks
Probably best appreciated by fans of the film, no doubt from the obvious electronic datedness coupled with Iggy Pop's schmaltzy vocals. Despite the lackluster material which dominates half the album's pop-based pairings, Goran Bregovic is an obvious talent, shown no clearer then with his gently intoxicating instrumentals. When composing in his element, Bregovic for this...

The music of Goran Bregovic really captures amazingly the sensitivity of the film while the Iggy Pop/Goran Bregovic (Yes.."The" Iggy Pop!) tunes underline nicely the humor and madness of this "modern American folk-tale". Bought my copy 10 years ago, still in my CD player or with me when taking a road trip. If you Luuuuv music, don't wait any longer.....get it now....seriously...I'm not kidding...come on!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece, September 2, 2003

This is the album that sounds even better without the Movie.
Goran Bregovic mixed traditional european Folk music with more modern styled instrumental and rock music.with this mix and his talent to make a moving and touching songs he created a masterpiece, delightfull voyage to teh darkest and most mysterious places...Goran added sytnhs, bass, delicate guitar (simmilar a bit to mike Oldfield),and a massive wall of drums...Check out "Dreams","Old home movie","Gunpowder","Dreams" and a huge hit "Tv screen" with Iggy pop on vocals.Definitly one of my Desert-island albums,a must have for all instrumental music fans and for everyone as well!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Versatile Composer, June 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Arizona Dream (Audio CD)
As most fans of Bregovic know, he is a versatile composer who blends well contemporary music technology with traditional flavors of eastern European gypsy and still manages to remain above the par of the usual techno-studio corporate music that attempts to stamp the "World Music" label on its own concoctions. "Arizona Dream" doesn't disappoint even the hard to please of Bregovic fans.

This soundtrack reflects perfectly the dreamlike characters and their quirks as well as the non-linear flow of the film. Eclectic, ethnic (Eastern European), partially sad, partially childish/funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surreal, intriguing, excellent music and recording, December 27, 2004

listening to the music is like enjoying the beautiful surreal movie once again without seeing it. The more I listen, the more I love it - it's the Amercian Dream story, it's the Iggy Pop music, it's the Johnny Depp narrative make it a valuable collectible CD. This is a new version, the recording is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you the dream or the dreamer?, May 17, 2011

Music is a very real part of any kind of movie especially if it has messages that are beyond the visual in it and Arizona Dreaming does have that and lots of it. Mind blowing messages from the past, present, and future, but then I find that most of the movies that Johnny Depp plays in are like that so I must assume (and I do know what the first three letters of that word are) that his mind is in another place as well. I was surprised at Jerry Lewis being in it although I am not sure why he was always sharp and ahead of his time. Iggy Pop of course added his own take on the sensual overtones that were all through the movie. All in all an excellent find. I will probably wear the CD out playing it again and again and learning something new everytime I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars This remains one of my favorites, March 7, 2009

Iggy Pop and ethereal in the same sentence? I found this soundtrack and fell in love with it before I knew it was a movie. It's an exotic blend of styles; new age, american indian-s.w., classical, folk, acid jazz and rock. (I couldn't believe that was Iggy Pop. He actually has a good voice!) This is strangely quirky, yet relaxing and funny. Everything is unexpected and brilliant.

"Get the Money" sounds almost like something Dan Hicks or Gary Newman would release. The lyrics are humorous, catchy and relatable like pop/punk/new wave. "Old Home Movies" and "7/8 & 11/18" are windswept, ethereal melodies with visions of long horizons, red earth and western mysteries (Tangerine Dream-ish). "Gypsy Reggae" for real? Yup and it works.

Most of all, I love the track, "This is a film". Haven't we all felt like we were living in a situation comedy and none of this is 'real'? Just remember, "... the fish doesn't think, the fish is mute, the fish knows - everything". Trust me, somehow in this context, life is explained. (I couldn't stand going to family affairs without this song.)

I wish the soundtrack for any of the Douglas Adams films or shows had been as inventive.

Life's too short to listen to the same thing or the ordinary. This isn't the same. It's one of those rarities that no one should live without hearing at least once.

When composing in his element, Bregovic for this film will attempt to whisk listeners away to the tropics with a style that seems all his own, but I am too often knocked back to crap-land when he plays supporting character to the Pop-led tracks.
