(Mr J. Lovin's review is for another movie altogether).

This is a true western in widescreen color with a darn good remastering job. Better than some I've seen lately. They knew how to make westerns in the '50's and this is a classic example. Two guys formerly of Quantrell's Raiders are secretly released from Texas incarceration to join up with the remnants of the Raiders in Arizona to help capture them. Audie Murphy, who does a good job here, is conflicted as to whether he should join the newly formed Arizona Rangers headed by Buster Crabbe, or head for Mexico.

With lots of action and riding through great western scenery, this movie almost feels like an epic story. You might think this is all about raiders, rangers and cavalry - groups of men fighting each other, and there is that, but really, it is about 2 guys trying to find their way after the Civil War. It's what makes it a good solid western. I've seen this before in 4x3 blurry vhs quality. It is far more impressive this way. It's like watching a totally different movie.

I love Audie Murphy movies. I am trying to get all of them. I was dissappointed to see that a lot of the ones on Amazon are not playable in the states only in Europe. Arizona Raiders is a good western. Be sure to read carefully the descriptions so you don't get one you can't play. It evidently takes a special player to play European movies. I have a Blue Ray. I can't afford to keep upgrading my video collection. I just got rid of all the VHS I had. Gradually replacing with either DVD or Blue Ray.

It should go without saying that southern Arizona is without a doubt the most ideal of western genre locations. Here we get to see the legendary Audie Murphy on horseback transforming from raider to ranger right in the Sonoran desert. What a beast. This is a very enjoyable and action packed 60s western. If that doesn't sound appealing already, then it sucks to be you. The story is amazing, the cinematography is beautiful, the music is incredible, etc.

The only downside to this movie is the terrible/unneeded nearly-ten minute prologue at the beginning, other than that this movie is golden.

Spagehtti westerns are not my thing. I was doing research on something. I was entertained by the movie. Nicely done.
