Editorial Reviews

Legendary B-western and serial director (and Quentin Tarantino favorite) William Witney helmed this smart, tense actioner, filmed on location in the Grand Canyon State. War hero-turned-movie star Audie Murphy (To Hell And Back) stars as a former Quantrell's Raider who, along with pal Ben Cooper (Johnny Guitar), are sprung from a chain gang by ranger Buster Crabbe (Flash Gordon) on condition they agree to be deputized so they can round up the remaining members of the gang - which they hope to accomplish by pretending to rejoin! The fine cast also includes Michael Dante and Gloria Talbott, and it's beautifully shot in Technicolor and Techniscope by Jacques Marquette (A Bucket Of Blood). Newly remastered.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

This product is expected to play back in DVD Video "play only" devices, and may not play in other DVD devices, including recorders and PC drives.

(Mr J. Lovin's review is for another movie altogether).

This is a true western in widescreen color with a darn good remastering job. Better than some I've seen lately. They knew how to make westerns in the '50's and this is a classic example. Two guys formerly of Quantrell's Raiders are secretly released from Texas incarceration to join up with the remnants of the Raiders in Arizona to help capture them. Audie Murphy, who does a good job here, is conflicted as to whether he should join the newly formed Arizona Rangers headed by Buster Crabbe, or head for Mexico.

With lots of action and riding through great western scenery, this movie almost feels like an epic story. You might think this is all about raiders, rangers and cavalry - groups of men fighting each other, and there is that, but really, it is about 2 guys trying to find their way after the Civil War. It's what makes it a good solid western. I've seen this before in 4x3 blurry vhs quality. It is far more impressive this way. It's like watching a totally different movie.

Spagehtti westerns are not my thing. I was doing research on something. I was entertained by the movie. Nicely done.

Good movie...I thoroughly enjoyed it... I love Audie Murphy both as a man and an actor... His heroics in WWII have been unequaled. Too bad PTSD was recognized back then... I believe he would have had a happier personal life as it been recognized in him and treated.
