4.0 out of 5 stars Arkanoid
This game is pretty fun but the problem with this game is that unlike TETRIS or DR MARIO, the levels start to get really, really hard to the point of frustration and the end levels are truly almost impossible.

Your goal is to break the breaks with a PONG-like setting. You get the little paddle at the bottom and you have a bouncing ball and with those you bounce the ball...

3.0 out of 5 stars An original game with no addictiveness
The game is original in a sense, and is a building block of sorts that other games have used in their own gameplay idea. The bottom line is, however, that the game lacks that familiar addictability that many NES games possessed. Arkanoid is a fun game, but lacked that little something extra to make it a cult classic.

This game is pretty fun but the problem with this game is that unlike TETRIS or DR MARIO, the levels start to get really, really hard to the point of frustration and the end levels are truly almost impossible.

Your goal is to break the breaks with a PONG-like setting. You get the little paddle at the bottom and you have a bouncing ball and with those you bounce the ball off of the paddle and break the bricks. But be warned because some of the bricks take several hits to break! Don't worry because when you break bricks, you get power ups and extra points as well.

Like I said this game was pretty fun but I assure you, once you get to the higher levels (20+), the game really cranks into super hard mode and it's way too hard. Whereas games like TETRIS and DR MARIO, you have to be quick and think of strategy, in ARKANOID, you have to do that and you also have to have quick reflexes because if you miss the ball, you lose a life.

All in all, it's pretty good for advanced gamers for younger and inexperienced gamers should stay away from this one. If that happens to be you, check out TETRIS and TETRIS 2 and DR MARIO. Again, hard game but fun if you're looking for a good challenge.

the ONLY game I have ever been able to drop a quarter into at the arcade and beat. 32 levels, beat the boss, and reset the machine with a credit. talk about value!

simply the greatest game ever made. i will own the arcade version in my garage someday

Wooooo. Get an old NES and then get this. I already had the paddle controller, but lost the cartridge. To buy it with the paddle is a lot of loot, but without is only a couple of bucks. You don't need the paddle, but it is cool to have it.

I have always had a strange addiction to this game. Whenever left alone with it I lose several hours, just bouncing that ball back and forth over and over. I cannot help it. One of the early stages in particular piss me off, and sometimes I need to do it over and over before I can get past it. Gold blocks are total D*bags! My favorite capsuls are the light blue ones that split the ball into three. The least useful is the one that equips you with a blaster... although it is pretty fun, it awards very few points. After a while, all you'll care about is points. The score!!!!

We used to have a table top version of this at the bar that my dad dragged us to as kids, that may explain something. Thank You!

I ordered this game and it came faster than i expected. i couldnt wait to use the original vaus(dial controller) for the game but it didnt work..it just glitched around on screen..
SO i just gave up using the vaus and im happy that it works with a normal controller. the game itself is difficult i cant get past the 1st level. but i still like it and play it every once in a while.

I wonder how many people actually have ever heard of this game? :)

The arcade version's controller was this spinning button you had to use to move the platform that would bounce the ball upward to destroy the colored cubes to move to the next level. I've played the arcade version and on the NES with a standard controller, and I must say, using a standard controller is easier. There's no villains or mighty heroes or anything like that - just a good, old fashioned puzzle/action challenge that tests your reflexes and is a great way to pass the time.

This game stole HOURS of my youth. FRUSTRATING and ADDICTING game that recquires mad knob turning and spacial skills. 32 lvls of block breaking of greatness (unless you get that special lvl warp) that get sequentially more impossible to beat.
