For home use in sharpening knives-a very good thing!
Volodymyr
I had a diamond honing stone that, while rated at a fine grit, left a rough finish on my blade.

The advertised size is 12", but this is very incorrect. Actual length of the exposed ceramic rod is 6.75" and the overall length is 11.25".

Rod is very functional and hones my knives to a razor edge, roughly equivalent to a 2200 grit stone in my estimation. As others have noted, angle is important, you need to learn how to use it.
At 6.75", it's not very convenient when sharpening a larger kitchen knife. It will work, but you have to go a lot slower and more carefully. I have a Smith's 9" Oval Ceramic Rod on order. At $10 with a big handle and longer length, it looks like it would be a lot better for a kitchen.

By the way, when your rod gets loaded up with metal filings and you need to clean it off, Barkeepers Friend on a scrub pad will get it mostly clean, or a "Super Metal/Rust Eraser" will do the job even better.

Despite the misleading description, it is a very functional product for the $6 price and I think it was a great deal. I'll probably be ordering another couple in the future to put into travel boxes.

Ceramic rods are reasonably compact (but long), lightweight and durable- but brittle so do not drop on hard surfaces!. You need not worry about "flattening" them as regular maintenance like a stone. There is a learning curve to holding the rod or knife at the proper angle but I still find it easier than using a flat stone; with the added benefit they will sharpen an inside or re-curve much easier. Rods like these are difficult to use in re-establishing a particular cutting angle or to duplicate what came from the factory- for that get yourself a more precise sharpening system. But it is also not difficult to get a hair shaving edge with this rod! As stated previously it is something like 1800-2200 grit or 9/8 microns

What we naturally tend to do is run the knife back and forth at a slightly different angle each time which begins to form a convex edge which many prefer and is unquestionably a durable edge. Used in conjunction with a courser diamond rod like the Eze-Lap and you have a fine field sharpening duo that can take care of most sharpening needs away from civilization. I carry both the Eze-Lap as well as a cut down version of this ceramic rod (without the handle).

Clean-up of steel clogged abrasive is a snap with a 3M pad and soap and water.

This is my go to sharpener for daily touch ups on my carry knife before I go to work.

An excellent rod for the money that I suspect will outlast me if I am careful not to drop it on concrete or tile.

12" is the total length of the sharpener, not of the sharpening section. Thought the description was a little dodgey - most other sharpeners list the length of the "steel" (or not-steel, in this case), not the steel and handle together. The price puts it in the same group as the other short ceramic sharpeners. Just don't expect a foot of ceramic to rub your knife on.
Aside from that gripe, the product seems fine, and is sharpening my knives (although is a bit more of a struggle to use on the larger blades).

I already knew what this product was because I had one previously but had broken it. This is a ceramic rod with a medium texture. There are some rough spots and this is definitely not fine china, if it was it wouldn't cut steel as fast as it does. A few strokes with a sharp knife produces a razor hone. This isn't really meant to sharpen a dull knife, but rather to maintain a sharp one. As such it works perfectly

Works great, and you can't beat the price. I had a diamond honing stone that, while rated at a fine grit, left a rough finish on my blade. I use this stick to finish my blade to a much finer end.

Most knife users/enthusiasts can attest that a knife steel/sharpening stick requires some learned skill, usually by trial and error. I use this more to hone my blades after a few passes through my diamond wheel electric sharpener. Then I finish with a leather strop, pretty standard procedure.
If you don't know what you're doing or don't find the appropriate angle, you can make a dull knife duller!

Great sharpener which makes knives razor sharp. Although other reviewers state it is small its not, obviously the ceramic part is not 12 inches. All together this is a steal for the price.
