Product Description

This is not a complete solution and includes only Arkon’s weighted friction dashboard mount with adhesive safety anchor. The CM012 friction dashboard car mount is compatible with smartphones, midsize tablets, GPS devices, and satellite radios. This mount should be used in conjunction with the appropriate suction pedestals and brackets, depending on the device to be mounted to the dashboard (not included). The 2-pound friction (aka bean bag) mount design features an anti-skid bottom surface, and keeps the mount secured to any deep, slightly slanted, or flat dashboard. The adhesive safety anchor is optional, but when hooked to the mount, provides an added level of stability. For a complete smartphone mounting solution featuring the friction mount and the Slim-Grip Ultra Smartphone and Midsize Tablet Holder, Arkon recommends Model SM612.

Customer Reviews

I consider this dash mount a much better option than a windsheld mount for your GPS.

Unlike suction cupping it to the windshield where it falls almost all the time, the suction surface on the Arkon Dash Mount is outstanding!!

If your dash is flat like mine you don't need to use the security hook. it stays in place perfectly.

I've purchased other GPS dash mounts but this one is worth the few dollars more IMO. Even though they all perform well, this one has better looks and functionality. Compare the pictures and you'll notice that the material that encloses the weight is smooth and has no folds. You'll also notice the open area in the front. It will allow you to tilt your GPS down further for a better viewing angle while on the dash. As a result of being lower, it blocks less of your vision. I actually see the hood of my SUV above the GPS and no road blockage at all. It just looks better. For now, this would be my choice if I needed another one.

I bought this along with my TomTom XXL 540TM. I liked the design with the decent opening in front to allow the power cable to easily drop down to the power outlet. I've only used it once since I bought it but it was easy to setup the GPS mount on it and then place it on the dash in a place easy to view and access. Through the trip I think it may have moved just slightly as I had the top of the GPS close to the windshield and eventually noticed a slight sound of the GPS "tapping" against the windshield. For the most part it stayed put and I was not using the included "hook" which probably would have kept it where ever I placed it.

Bottom line, if you are like my wife and I (have more than one car), and need to have a portable solution for your GPS to make it easy to transfer between vehicles then this will work for you. The price is reasonable as well. The item itself has some weight to it and it's not the "toss around" bean bag type. AS mentioned, it comes with a hook you can attach to your dashboard to help keep it in place.

This also would be good if you simply want to keep you GPS off the windshield (i.e. the mount) and also do not want to stick/tape a mount on the dash. With this, you simply remove it from the dash when done.

Note: Most people are probably aware of this but for those that are not, the mounts will typically have a "lock" position that will keep the suction cup in place and thus keep your GPS in place. To insure your GPS stays on this mount and doesn't "pop" off, make sure you are locking the GPS mounting arm (suction cup) to it. I've had absolutely no problem attaching and removing the GPS mounting arm.

*** Added Video review to demonstrate use with my Tom Tom - video got cut short in conversion but still has the main information and shows the "arm" attached.

Very stable. But on the first hot day, I got in the car to find the plastic disc seperated from the pad. Investigation showed that there are 4 small screws that secure the disc to the mount, which had all pulled out. I reatteched the disc with some liquid nails glue, and now it is holding up nicely.

I hated sticking the Magellan Roadmate to the windshield and having it fall off or getting hot in the sun. But did not want to make any mess of my dashboard. So I tried this.
It is heavy enough that I didn't need the little peg for holding it on the dash. Was smooth enough so that the GPS did not come unstuck. Was well worth the price.

The quality seemed good, but my dashboard has some nice curves and this mount is not very flexible at all. It would probably be good if your dashboard has a flat area (flat not level, since it has descent grip on the bottom). I ended up returning it because it didn't work for me.

Awesome dash mount. Heavy enough to make it "stay put". Smooth surface for Garmin to suction . Highly recommend it.

I got exactly what I should have expected. Works well with my standard TomTom920 windshield mount. Delivery was quick. I haven't used the safety hook since it's heavy enough to stay put.

I should have expected the only downsides for my use. These are that it's too big to put in my center console with the GPS attached and it's too heavy to travel with and use with for use with a rental car.

At least in my Silverado I'd need to mount the hook or the unit will slowly slide off the dash. I just really don't care to put an adhesive hook permanently on my dash. the base is a little too rigid. If it was a bit heavier and more bean bag like, I think it would slide less. It's ok for what it is, just not great. Quality if fine.
