I am disappointed in this product because it did NOT contain the parts pictured, i.e. the "clips" that are supposed to surround the GPS device in the second piece pictured so I cannot attach my GPS device to the mount. I paid as much for shipping ($8.00) as I did for the product($8.20). NYC Electronic return policy includes a restocking fee of 20% (add that to the return shipping & handling!) & will not take anything that has been opened (how can you see what you have until you open it!) I have notified the mfg Arkon via e-mail so we'll see if they respond with a fix. At this point, unless I get a fix from the mfg (Arkon), I feel ripped off for approximately $16.00.

Better, smaller, more versatile and much less expensive than the mount that comes with the Magellan GPS devices. The original part that came with mine didn't work at all, Magellan did not answer my service inquiry, and Magellan's part costs $45.

Good general purpose mount,

I purchased this go accompany a Magellan 4700. The Magellan came with a windshield mount, but when I attempted to put it on my dash, which slopes down towards the hood in the area I'm using to mount, the stock mount would not depress - I ended up looking at a reflection of the sky! So I bought this mount. I did not use the accompanying bracket; the unit comes with a Megellan compatible mount (two slots). HOWEVER, the 4700 has a different mount (single slot). No problem, I bought the ARKON APMM300-VSM, which included an adaptor for my 4700.
The mount fits a 70 mm base plate, just barely. It swings up and down from the base, and has a nice knob all-way adjustment to the rear of the mount, which allows a lot of free movement to adjust the GPS. During operation it seems to shake a bit; I'm not sure I recommend this for any off-road use. But it did not detach during several hours of driving, and it is a very good size - not too large, not too small. This is a good choice if it fits your GPS device. |
