5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping music.
I agree with the previous positive reviewer. The music can literally replay the movie in your head. The theme and tracks 17-19 especially bring me a feeling of mind numbing desperation. I find myself driving faster when I listen to it in my car. Arlington Road: great movie, amazing soundtrack.

This review is from: Arlington Road: Soundtrack From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Arlington Road comes second as the scariest soundtrack I've heard. Although nearly the entire CD is based around a low, monotonous bass that never seems to shut up (reminicent of RIVEN), the recording dishes out several horrifically unpresedented explosions of music that usually forbode an equally exciting chase piece. I can't specify which track it does this in since they all sound the same and never have a very short interval of quiet when the next track begins, but I will say that if the composer were to trim a lot of the pointless themes and parts where there is almost no music (save the ever present bass) he would have a fairly decent soundtrack with merit. Instead it's an occasional thrill here, but not much above watching someone sweep the floor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angelo Badalamenti scores again, August 4, 2001

This is one of the best soundtracks I've ever listened to. It is even better than the Twister soundtrack I bought a couple of years ago. When I first saw the movie, I was stunned and terrified. Personally, I think the bass on track 13 "The Truth is Out There" is fantastic. It goes well with the scenario in the movie. Also, the "Neon Reprise" part of Track 1 was good. I think they should make a sequel to Arlington Road because the first one was so good. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Chilling as the Film, July 19, 1999

This music from Angelo Badalamenti is truely incredible. The mood swings and ambiance are about as strong as anything he has done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maybe not a stand-alone, but it has merit., July 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Arlington Road: Soundtrack From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I just saw the film, and it was terrifying. The music Mr. Badalamenti composed - be it so-called "filler" or not - was intensely perfect for the story. It *made* the film for me. Without it, it would have been completely different. The film itself kept you on the edge of your seat - and if it wasn't the situations or the acting, it was the music. Always something to scare you. I recommend this CD if you were as fascinated and terrified by this movie as I was. Listening to the music brings you back to the film unlike a stand-alone score..and sometimes, that's not such a bad thing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not A Stand-Alone Film Score, May 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Arlington Road: Soundtrack From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I haven't seen the film but I'm afraid this isn't one of those scores that can stand own its own, like Badalamenti's works with David Lynch. Much of it sounds like a retread of the dark-night-of-the-soul territory Howard Shore has already covered on his "Silence of the Lambs" soundtrack and Badalamenti's machine-shop borrowings from Trent Reznor/NIN are especially unwelcome; they barely worked in "Lost Highway" and they don't work at all here. They're too forced and don't match up with Badalamenti's true talent for conjuring up states of lyrical anxiety or dread. His classic "Twin Peaks" score brought an emotionalism to the material that is extremely rare in movie music and never heard on television; his almost continuous music for "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" helped bring off the walking-dead effects Lynch narrowly got away with. Both scores are movie music triumphs. "Arlington Road" is strictly derivative commercial movie music filler, a little edgier than most but still filler. Badalamenti's music for Lynch's forthcoming "Straight Story" should be more memorable.

this ain't ange's best work, but it's still better than most the crap scores out there today.his classic mood is intact in this work, but at times the fast parts have a bit much adrenaline.

4.0 out of 5 stars MADE THE FILM TWICE AS RIVETING, BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE TRACKS, January 15, 2005
This review is from: Arlington Road: Soundtrack From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
The music is stunning, and if you're into OSTs this is nearly a no-brainer of a purchase. The movie was a thriller so most of the compositions veer around a suspenseful theme. I will however drop one star from my review of the *compilation*, not so much for the quality of the music as the decision to exclude some excellent numbers from different bands, which are not in this list. It's just the musical score.
