Book Description

The ARM chip has established a world profile over the last five years, but other than highly specialised documentation it is not very well supported by currently available books. ARM System Architecture is designed to be a solid academic text and professional reference, introducing computer architecture concepts and using the ARM chip to illustrate the points.

About the Author

Steve Furber has a long association with the ARM, having helped create the first ARM chips during the 1980s. Now an academic, but still actively involved in ARM development, he presents an authoritative perspective on the many complex factors that influence the design of a modern system-on-chip and the microprocessor core that is at its heart. This book represents the culmination of fifteen years of experience of ARM research and development and of teaching undergraduate, masters and industrial training courses in system-on-chip design using the ARM.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good overall source of information, August 9, 2000
This review is from: Arm System Architecture (Paperback)
If you're looking to learn about the ARM system architecture, this is pretty much the only game in town.

It provides a good overview of many aspects of the architecture, however, it leaves out many key facts and in places confuses the simplest of issues.

It is full of illustrative diagrams and examples; however some of the tables you are better off not trying to understand (see above about confusing otherwise clear subjects).

Overall I liked the book, and even though it's 4 years old, it's still pretty relevant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but I was looking for more transistor level, April 12, 2007
This review is from: Arm System Architecture (Paperback)
Good historical book.

It covers the digital block levels very quickly.

So it was OK for a 1st understanding of ARM architecture.

The other transistor level book is how much! $110+

no way.

A good reference book for high level architecture and no much in depth.

I was hoping more in depth knowledge

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for ARM begginers, August 29, 2000
This review is from: Arm System Architecture (Paperback)
Good for ARM system begginers. Although this book lacks many important issues, it is well suited for those who want to jump into ARM programming. while it is expected to focus on ARM, in many places, this book loses the expected focus and discusses general non-ARM topics
