Hasbro has been listening. When the first Armada Prime came out, many fans had a few problems with it. The following are some of those problems, and how Hasbro has fixed them.1) Poseability. Fans were disappointed at the first Prime's lack of articulation. Hasbro says, "they want articulation? Let's give it to 'em." This new Prime has eleven points of it, including a head that can look up, down, and side to side. The ANKLES even pivot so that when Prime is posed with his legs apart, his feet can be flat on the ground. Good work, Hasbro. 2) The trailer. Infrared technology is cool and all, but the trailer seemed to still have a few bugs. After an initial try, many fans found the trailer to be more trouble than it was worth, what with the noise, partial transformations, and battery problems. Besides, half the fun of Transformers is transforming them by hand! Hasbro says "who needs a trailer at all?" The new prime marks the first semi-truck Prime figure ever (that I know of) to not come with a trailer, and that's fine with me. His mini-con has a place to ride back there, and there's a hitch that suggests (along with Hasbro media) that future accessories will be able to be "hitched" to Prime. 3) Cost. The first prime was just plain expensive. This one, which is an improvement in nearly every way, comes in at just under $.. at most retailers. 4) Accuracy. This Prime, partially because of the articulation, is far more accurate to the comics and TV show, which translates into a really cool-looking figure. The awkward "shoulder pads" look and clunky legs of the first Armada Prime have been addressed. Seems pretty durable. Two problems I have so far: I can't figure out how his mini-con unlocks the "double-punch" feature, he plugs in and the lever still doesn't want to move. Maybe I'll get the hang of it. Also, the mini-con looks great on its own, but as Prime's "gun" kinda looks rediculous. Other than that, the best Prime toy yet. Great job, Hasbro!

I grew up when Transformers were just hitting the scenes and have found the recent Generation 1 re-issues to be a great way to pick up the Transformers that I could never get as a kid. The re-issues also sparked new interest in collecting Optimus Prime in his many forms over the last near 20 years. I picked up this Optimus Prime in the store and was very impressed with it. It looks much like the $.. version without the trailer and a little smaller - still a great piece to display. He is very poseable, something the old Transformers lacked severely, and looks great holding the Mini-con transformed as his blaster rifle. All in all, a great buy, especially for a child that doesn't have $.. to spend on a transformer.

For you parents whose kids want a toy of Optimus Prime from Armada, but can't or won't spend about [$$$] for the large toy, this may be for you. This is a smaller, less expensive version of Optimus prime that loses the electronic and combining features of the larger toy (not to mention the truck trailer) but makes up for it with nicer artictulation and good attention to detail. Fans of the Beast Wars and Robots in Disguise toy lines will probably prefer this Prime to his larger counterpart. His mini-con partner also changes into a gun he can hold, or mount on the back of the truck mode. The mini also controls a punching action through the lever on Optimus' back, but it looks more like a dance move to me. Pretty durable, although the pipes on the arms can pop off easily and risk being lost. (the large one had this problem too) All in all, a very good Transformer toy, especially for the budget-concious.

I just got Optimus Prime. I really like his mini-con. I'm getting Jetfire soon to see if you can use the smaller Prime to make Jet Convoy. The only thing wrong with Prime is his guns on his hands keep on falling off. He is a lot more poseable than the bigger Prime. Also his mini-con is cool when it transforms into his gun.I think the only transformer better than him is Jetfire.

It frustrates me to hear him refered to as the "scaled down" or "matrix-less" Armada Prime. I'd like to think of the $ version (which I also own, regretably) as the deluxe model, or the toy company's current pride-'n-joy. However, this little Prime cements a theory of mine that the best Armada toys can be had for around $ or less. Next to the original Optimus (or the current re-issues of him and his Powermaster self), this is all the Prime you'll ever need. Posable, portable and bearing a striking likeness to the original, Supercon Prime provides the best update of the classic character in 10 years.

Optimus Prime & Over-Run,

In an attempt to make Optimus Prime more affordable, Hasbro releases a smaller, more articulated Optimus Prime that out does his previous incarnation by leaps and bounds. This new version of Prime is a bit smaller than the cab that comes with the more expensive version released earlier this year. Don't let the size worry you though. This toy is a lot nicer than the original.Over-Run is a gray jet with a neat little feature; retractable front landing gear. He also folds up to form Prime's handgun and can be placed on the rear of the truck to give Prime some firepower in vehicle mode. Now, if you already own The larger Optimus Prime toy, you will be able to transform this one no sweat. And, like the other toy, this one suffers from smokestacks-don't want-to stay attached-syndrome. Over-Run simply folds out the arms and flips down the nose of the jet. The wings can be positioned back, front or out to the sides. The best part about robot mode is that he doesn't look as though his head is coming out of his chest like the larger version does. Prime features full neck, shoulder and elbow articulation, waist, hips, and knee joints as well, making him the best-articulated figure in the Armada line to date. Attach a Mini-Con to the post on his back and move it up and down to activate his "punching" action. Really, all it is are his shoulders moving back and forth. Not bad and at least it doesn't get in the way of the toy. As stated earlier, Over-Run can transform into his handgun. He can also be stored on the Mini-Con port on Prime's... rear. Overall, if you buy just one Transformers Armada toy, make it Supercon Optimus Prime. You won't be disappointed. Grade: A

WOW! I didn't think they could beat the classic Prime, but Hasbro pulled it off! You can move this guy in so many positions I can't stop play'n with him! Plus I have transformed him about 50 times and nothings broken of fallen off yet. And the idea of making the Mini-con a gun was a stroke of brilliance! High five to the designers! I hope the people at Transformers keeps 'em coming! (My only nit-pick is that nowhere on his body is there the Autobot symbol)

Great figure. It has an easy transformation, both modes look great, and his little minicon can also turn into a gun, so he can be a target master. Overall, awesome.

Probably my favourite transformer toy (I've had G1,BM,BW,RiD,Energon etc). What I like about it is the all-round factor.
The transformation, although simple, is solid and makes good use of the truck's features to give the robot bulkiness and metal muscle. The robot-mode is SOLID (and no,my wrist-guns still haven't fallen off). You can do some pretty amazing postures with it that even beat (dare I say it) those of 20th Anniversary Prime. I also like the fact that you can mount his gun at the back. My only problem is that his back would look better if the truck top(cab or whatever you call it) was turned around 180 degrees to prevent his lower back being bigger than his upper back. The cab also doesn't fall apart when you play around with it (RiD Optimus anyone?) and the 'fat' wheels make it easy to roll around. Nice colour and design. Overall I thought this was a bulky toy in both modes with a solid transformation, lots of posture possibilities and a bargain for what you pay for it! Make way for the little guy! Note: The figure is not properly transformed on the picture (shoulders). |
