Timely update of Walvoord's 1990 book, July 4, 2007
This review is from: Armageddon, Oil, and Terror: What the Bible Says about the Future (Hardcover)
Mark Hitchcock worked together with John F. Walvoord to update Armageddon, Oil, and the Middle East Crisis (1990) and this is the product. The book is still written about biblical prophecy from the premillennial dispensationalist viewpoint, but it has been thoroughly revised to reflect the current situation of the 21st century, hence the new title.
The chapters are the following:
Ch. 1 Why Prophecy?
Ch. 2 Oil Becomes the Ultimate Weapon
Ch. 3 Terrorism Reaches Everyone
Ch. 4 Israel: Ground Zero for the End Times
Ch. 5 The Decline and Fall of America
Ch. 6 The New Pax Romana
Ch. 7 The Russian-Islamic Invasion of Israel
Ch. 8 The Coming World Dictator
Ch. 9 The Final Holocaust
Ch. 10 Iraq -- The New Babylon
Ch. 11 China Flexes Its Awesome Power
Ch. 12 Natural Disasters, Disease, and Famine Reach Everyone
Ch. 13 The Last Suicidal Battle of WWIII
Ch. 14 A Promise to Remember
Ch. 15 Scanning the Horizon
The chapters I found most interesting are:
Chapters 2 The authors go in depth about the vital importance of Middle East Oil on foreign policy of different nations and the connection of oil with the Gulf Wars
Chapter 3 The authors mention Al-Qaida, Hamas, & Hezbollah as well as the events of 9-11; all these events point to the coming fulfillment of the invasion of Israel by the Russian-Islamic Confederacy
Chapter 5 The decline and fall of America -- there are different options to take regarding biblical prophecy about America -- the key point is that America will decline and lose its prominent leadership role in the world, paving the way for the revival of the Roman Empire
Chapter 7 The Russian-Islamic invasion of Israel -- this is a big update from the 1990 version and previous works on prophecy. Here, Russian will ally with an Islamic confederacy to invade Israel
Chapter 10 Iraq -- the New Babylon -- the authors see Iraq rising in prominence in the future, as the future base for the Antichrist
Chapter 11 China -- China and India will rise in prominence, in fulfillment of the rise of the "kings of the east"
Chapter 15 Scanning the Horizon -- prophetic checklists are provided for the readers to see what the Bible foretells regarding the church, Israel, and the nations
If you subscribe to the premillennial dispensationalist viewpoint, you would love this work. It is completely updated and very informative. I especially appreciate the detailed revision which incorporates how terrorism, America, and China come into play with Bible prophecy.
It is much better than the 1990 version (America, Oil, & Middle East crisis). There are helpful charts throughout the book as well. Even if you don't hold to the premillennial dispensationalist viewpoint, you will find this book to be an informative resource. Highly recommended!

This Book Has the Answers, May 21, 2007
This review is from: Armageddon, Oil, and Terror: What the Bible Says about the Future (Hardcover)
Mark Hitchcock and John F. Walvoord have hit the nail on the head, have shot the center out of the bullseye. Oil is the key to the events shaping up in the Middle East. With the depletion of reserves and the duplicitous
nature of rogue states like Iran and Venezuela, the world is increasingly being held hostage to having the pipelines being shut off.
Europe, the United States, and others so dependent upon the vacillating temperament of OPEC have set themselves up for the catastrophe that most certainly awaits them. A Lack of research into alternative fuel sources, a societal refusal to cut back on consumption, an unwillingness to drill new sites and build new refineries, have exacerbated an already critical situation regarding oil. Add this to the standing the US and its allies have with the nation of Israel, we can readily see the hastening approach of Armageddon.
It is clear to most who are open-minded enough to compare Biblical prophecies with today's headlines that the only thing more idealistically
precious to the Islamic Arab countries is their immutable, deep-seated
hatred of
Jews in particular and Christians in general. If oil and terrorism are the means to subjugate and eventually destroy both, they will use it to the extreme.
The authors have clearly and concisely outlined the roles that each of the countries, including the US, Russia, and China, will play in the latter day times. There is no escaping the eventuality, just a matter of when in God's eternal plan. This book is a wake up call for everyone to be prepared. Hitchcock and Walvoord, however, do remind us who believe and trust in the Savior of mankind " That there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus our Lord ".

Five Star, June 13, 2007
This review is from: Armageddon, Oil, and Terror: What the Bible Says about the Future (Hardcover)
This is the one volume book that I hoped was one day coming that would, with authority and not overwhelmingly religious, make and state the case for political/prophetic world events. Get this book if you are at all interested or curious about Biblical prophecy and world events. The book has only been out for a brief time and is current, including charts that are concise, current and make sense. I would only have added more comprehensive information on their interpretation of Babylon as it was too brief and short-sighted.
