5.0 out of 5 stars Strong Melodic Theme, Great Orchestra+Guitar score
This score is strong; it's one of the best if not the best work done by Trevor Rabin. This score is one of my favorite simply because of the strong upbeat melodic themes across all tracks and the beautiful blend of strings and synthesized sounds and guitars make it even more capturing:

3.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff but way incomplete.
How awesome is this music? It'll seriously blow you away. There are a zillion themes all played out in the most exciting and heartbreaking ways. But Harry Gregson Williams is entirely absent from this CD. His stuff is great in the movie but it ain't here. All we get is Trevor Rabin's contribution. It still rocks tho.

This score is strong; it's one of the best if not the best work done by Trevor Rabin. This score is one of my favorite simply because of the strong upbeat melodic themes across all tracks and the beautiful blend of strings and synthesized sounds and guitars make it even more capturing:

1 - Armageddon Suite - 10/10 - Main theme. Melody cycled by acoustic guitars, distorted guitars, synth and strings. Beautifully magnificent.
2 - Harry & Grace Make Peace - 9/10 quiet and serene, main theme is played by acoustic guitars with background strings. Beautiful.
3 - AJ's Return - 8/10 Upbeat cues, Strong synth, percussion.
4 - Oil Rig - 7/10 this track has some sort of old west cues done in a rock-eske mood. Lots of harmonica appearances. Very different from the rest of the score.
5 - Leaving - 8/10 This track catches my attention not only because of the cool main theme making another appearance, but because of the quality of the strings. It may be that Trevor is mixing real strings with synth ones. Very nice.
6 - Evacuation - 6/10 - This is a mix of dramatic cues, nothing linear.
7 - Harry Arrives At Nasa 7/10 - nothing radically different here..
8 - Back In Business - 8/10 - some nice blends of climax here.
9 - Launch - 10/10 - A strong track, climax, melodic cues slowly presented, there a re a couple of new melodic bridges, magnificent end.
10 - 5 Words - 10/10 short track but very cool.
11 - Underwater Simulation - 7/10 - smooth track, new cues, slowly reaching.
12 - Finding Grace - 7/10 - old west theme reappearing, not a personal favorite but very well done.
13 - Armadillo - 6/10 - old west theme again.
14 - Short Straw - 7/10 - not bad but more of a drama filler, the melodic cues aren't given much freedom here.
15 - Demands - 8/10 a nice change, cool bass and piano duo.
16 - Death Of Mir - 7/10 - drama scene, a lot of synth drums, mixed cues.
17 - Armageddon Piano - 9/10 - beautiful piano theme, I would give it 10/10 if it were longer!
18 - Long Distance Goodbye / Landing - 9/10 - some beautiful images drawn here by strings and clean guitars on the first half of the track. Then follows the grand finale with a few newly done cues. Very nice climax for an end.

Overall this album is a must-have for anyone that likes movie scores. I've heard some of these tracks being used in live tv shows, which is just an indication of how appealing they are. Great work from Trevor Rabin.

Track 1 takes a couple of minutes to get going but when it does the main Armageddon Theme and following guitar riff is pure Media Ventures class. Trust me, it's great.

Track 6 'Evacuation' ends with one of the biggest build-ups of powerhouse music I've ever heard. It'll seriously get your blood flowing. So much so that it would excite a corpse back to life. Great stuff.

Track 9 'Launch' plays the main theme in such a wistful, sentimental and determined way that you cannot help love it. Sooooo cool.

And finally, my fave track 'Long Distance Goodbye/Landing' is the best the CD has to offer. All the main themes come back here, played out in a wonderful variety of different cues. If you're a fan of movie music then you'll appreciate the coolness of this track.

It's a real shame the CD does not include the full score because it is sorely missed, I must say. The music definitely gets 5/5 but the CD gets 3/5. Tho I still would seriously stress that you get it. No doubt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where is the entire opening sequence???, March 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Armageddon: The Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
I like Trevor Rabin's score for this film. He did an excellent job mixing orchestral music with contemporary rock music. I was, however, dissapointed that some of the key music cues weren't available. The entire score for the opening "End of the World" sequence was missing. And cues for scenes like the destruction of New York and Paris gone. These were some of my favorite cues. This CD seemed to only contain the more upbeat tracks... Over all the soundtrack for this movie was good, it just could use more cues...

Jerry Bruckheimer's movie "Armageddon" starring Bruce Willis is one of the best films in the history. It has a script that can be real, that can really happen. The visual and sound effects are super! When I received the CD, I was in a shock! I have never heard such music. It makes me cry, that's how much it impresses me. I listen to it at my computer at night, when I work... It really helps...If You would ask me, I would say: BUY IT!

3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD. Missing the key elements., May 8, 1999
This review is from: Armageddon: The Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
When I ordered the score to this movie I had alot of expectations. But as I listened on, I felt robbed. It was missing the key music from the movie that is not on the CD. 1. The opening "End of the world" sequence, 2. The destruction of N.Y. and Paris. 3. The orbit around the moon and the crash landing of the Independence. 4. The death of Harry and the explosion of the Asteriod. 5. The closing credits after Aerosmith. These important elements contributed to the film and gave me a sense of patriotism. My question is what is the reason for editing the music in the film? Is there a soundtrack extension in the making? If, so when .

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, but where's the whole thing...?, April 29, 2004
This review is from: Armageddon: The Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
Rabin does an amazing job on this score. He blows an audience away with his work on this one. So make no mistake it rules. The only problem is this: Harrison-Williams work was left out of this one. He does an amazing job doing his part as well, but he was left out of the track. Go ahead and buy it because the music rocks, but if it had Harrison-Williams work on it, it would probably get a SIX out of FIVE stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Trevor Rabin's best work yet, December 16, 2002

Trevor Rabin does it with this score and I am glad that it did get a release because it really deserved one. Hearing the score track on the song compilation soundtrack, left me wanting a score release badly. Anyway, to describe the score, it really consists of 3 musical styles: knockout action music, delicate romantic music, and wild and honky-tonk like country sounding music. The main theme is a heroic string passage, played throughout several of the tracks in the score. The first track, "Armageddon Suite" consists of bass synth rhythms which segues into an explosion of the main theme with plenty of strings and a testosterone filled choir. The electric guitar, played by Rabin, enters after that with the main theme, which sounds awesome on it. The theme is heard plenty after that in such tracks as "Harry & Grace Make Peace", "AJ's Return", the best track of them all "Launch", and "Long Distance Goodbye/Finale". The bluegrass, country-western type music, which is pretty much annoying is found in "Oil Rig", "Armadillo", and "Demands". Harry Gregson-Williams was brought in to compose some music for the film as well, but none of his music is credited, if any is found in the score. A knockout thrill ride score that is the best from Trevor Rabin. If he continues to write music like this, he will burst onto the scene as one of the hottest film composers out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest soundtrack i've ever heard, June 12, 2000

This review is from: Armageddon: The Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
Armageddon became a favorite of mine from the first second, but even more than the movie, what got me really hoked was the amazing soundtrack. When I left the theater in that summer afternoon of 1998,I went to the music store to look for it and was sad to learn that the only title available here in good old Portugal was the Armageddon Album (The one with Aerosmith and a bunch of others). So it was with great pleasure that I bought it a few days ago here in Amazon and it was worth the wait. This is Trevor Rabin at his best.Tracks 2),3),5)and 9)are my favorite. The only thing I have to say against this soundtrack is the fact that there are at least two tracks missing-The one when the asteroid impacts the Earth right in the beguining of the movie(and later in Paris) and the one during the end credits wich are greatly missed.Despite that, this is,without any doubt, the best soundtrack I have ever heard.A definite "must have" for those who love this kind of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, February 11, 2000
This review is from: Armageddon: The Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
This has got to be my favorite soundtrack. It is truly a masterpiece. I have been lucky enough to get the complete score, which is 2 CDs. I cannot hear enough of this music. I thought the one CD was enough but I cannot see not having both. Go buy it, you will not be disappointed!

This is Trevor Rabin's best work.I especially liked track 9 "Launch."It kept me going throughout the 8 minute playing time.I am dissapointed that a couple of tracks were missing. The music from the "Independance" crashing was left out. Also, the opening music was left out as well.Overall this is a must have CD if you liked the movie.
