I loved it. I love a book that describes in detail how things work and Clem Chambers' ARMAGEDDON TRADE gives you a window into the world of high stakes trading that is hard to find. The action plot is fast-paced and cinematic, too.
And, finally, a truly unique hero--not too handsome, not too well-spoken, not too well-educated, Jim's self-deprecating take on his rise to prominence in the financial realm is utterly charming. I recommend it for everyone who likes financial thrillers. I put it along with Christopher Reich, Lawrence Light, Steve Frey and others.

This book is a financial thriller, the only one in it's genre. Jim the hero of this story has a great super power. It isn't out-speeding bullets or super strength but super impressive nonetheless. His power is the dream of everybody in the finance world and I should know, I write software to find opportunities in the stock market. Many times I have dreamed of being able to predict market movement like Jim can, and the mountain of money I would have!Clem tells a really great story here and always includes subtle jokes that I really enjoyed. They flow well with the story and made me laugh. I love the big castle setting most of all. I felt so medieval and modern at the same time in the castle. Can't wait to read the next 2 in the series! Of course the exotic women were very hot as well... ;)

I was surprised to get this book and find that it is fiction. It was recommended on a Mensa bulleting board, which I took to have serious investing tips. I decided to read it anyway, and found it fast-paced and engaging. A great story of a lucky young Brit who gets a lot of good breaks and enters the trading world, only to find a dark subplot of world manipulation. While it is fiction, it's not that far fetched.

An all-action financial thriller...,
This review is from: The Armageddon Trade (Paperback)
Doing for city traders what John Grisham did for lawyers, Clem Chambers' "The Armageddon Trade" is a gripping adventure set against a backdrop of financial market meltdown. Like Grisham novels, it has the feel of a blockbuster movie waiting to happen, but it's no less entertaining a read for that.
When a junior bank worker discovers a valuable talent for reading trends in the market, he quickly soars to a position of power in the financial world. Yet, the celebrations may be short-lived, as his new status brings him to the attention of a shadowy figure who moves behind the markets. Together they must unravel a terrifying financial model, before a cataclysm plunges the world back into the dark ages. With glamorous locations, global terrorism, and the power of limitless wealth, The Armageddon Trade makes numbers dangerous and sexy. I wasn't sure I would enjoy a financial thriller, but this was truly an unexpected delight.

An exciting financial thriller,

This is a taut and exciting thriller based in the financial trade. The characters are believeable and sympathetic, and the plot - while a little implausible in places - keeps you turning the pages to find out what's going to happen. I recommend it.

At last......,

At last, a good thriller about traders.
Lots of financial juice and loads of action, too -- not just some dry book about money and how to trade. Mr. Chambers crosses Jason Bourne with Warren Buffett....gotta love that....

sorry, but it's crap,
This review is from: The Armageddon Trade (Kindle Edition)
Allthough the basic premisis of the book is unrealistic to start with, the story starts out OK.
Suspense is built up quite nicely following the financial storyline, but about halfway through Mr. Chambers must have gotten into a hurry to finish (publication deadline??). New characters enter, but are cardboard-thin and the story takes a very unrealistic U-turn towards a very rushed and unsatisfying, GI-Joe type realism, ending. Left the book on the train after reading cause it's not even worth the shelf space....... |
