This book is unique in that it provides a (partially) parallel treatment of Western and Eastern Armenian. It is also extensive in its treatment of grammar and other aspects of the language. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is full of grammatical mistakes in the English explanations (the author is apparently not a native English speaker) and doesn't seem very well-organized.

Barev Jhoghovourts!!! This book is largely what made that possible, Praise THELORD! I have searched quite a bit for resources to learn Armenian. This is especially difficult when one searches for materials pertinent to Western Armenian. This book goes beyond trying to only explaining the elements of the language, but enlivens the experience through the inclusion of personal stories, language peculiarities, and the Armenian language in the context of other languages including Classical Armenian (the first version of the language to be written and proliferated with the Mesrobian Alphabet- which Amazon won't let me use here). One source of confusion among many Armenians is the difference between Eastern and Western Armenian. In the U.S. during the early 20's and 30's, Eastern Armenian was considered somewhat "less than" in many California Armenian communities. Today, it seems to be just the opposite in some places. The truth? - well these are both viable languages, but to really find out, you will just have to buy the book! A year ago, I knew about thirty Armenian words, with no great connection to any productive usage. Now, still learning everyday, I speak both Western and Eastern Armenian.
