Every once in 12 or so car care products I come across something that I would bother to purchase again. ArmorAll Wheel Protectant Spray falls into the 1 in 4 car care products I have ever found that not only do what the manufacturers claim, but excel at the function. The first car I put this on was an Audi S5. The rims already had a silver cast look, but in two days they were spotted with brake dust and looked dirty under normal conditions. Normal for me is barely using the brakes on a commute. If I did a little apex attacking, my rims were closer to black. I had thought about all the different products that I could use: different pads, brake dust shields, etc..; however I did not want to change the look or performance of my vehicle. So...I had to try this product.

Excellence in a can, is about how I would summarize this spray. I cleaned my rims with rim cleaner, every kind of brush available and lot of cool clean water. Then dried them with some microfiber towels and liberally sprayed the wheel protectant on. This product works best at room temperature and the longer you allow it to sit on your car the better the results 'should' be, according to ArmorAll. It was about 70 degrees f when I applied this and I let it sit on my wheels for a good three (3) hours before driving. For the first two to three days I noticed a little haze in the deepest grooves of my rims that looked almost like Meguiars cleaner wax. The rest of the product blended perfectly with my rims. While you could wait until you wash your car to clean your rims, I elected to hit them lightly with a swiffer and then rub the small areas of haze down with a microfiber cloth. It only took about 10 minutes to take out the haze and the product performance was unaffected.

This product really does work very well at repelling brake dust. It will keep a wheel clean substantially longer. In fact, if you miss a spot, you will quickly see brake dust build up in that spot and not on the rest of the wheel.

The downside? It only appears to work on silver alloy wheels. It basically leaves behind a white film which resists the brake dust. If you wipe off the white film, you lose the protection. I tried applying it to black wheels, and it looked terrible. I imagine on chrome wheels, polished wheels, or any other colored wheels, it will also look terrible. On stock silver wheels, however, you can't really tell. This is what this product is meant to protect. If you have stock silver painted alloy wheels, this product works great. If you don't, it will look terrible.

If you look up videos of this product and think that they are BS, they aren't. This stuff works exactly like it shows on the vidoes. I tried the mud and it ran off. I even tried the honey, and it blobbed out, then sucked itself into a cute little ball of honey and then ran right off the rim. I couldn't beleive it! I have been driving my car around for 2 weeks now and I can't see any accumilation of brake dust on the wheels. I drive an '10 Audi S5 and the high perf. brakes on that used to cover the wheels in about 50 miles, and it is amazing to still have clean wheels 600 miles after applying it.

why can't they make this stuff to spray on the paint too! Then you'd never have to wash your car, bird poop and road grime wouldn't stand a chance!

I cannot extoll this product enough, it is truely amazing and will never go w/ dirty wheels again. thanks Armor All!

This product seems to work well at repelling brake dust, but this seems to depend a lot on the type of surface involved (clear coat, powder coated, painted, polished, chrome, etc).

I have several different sets of wheels on different cars. On most of mine, what I have found is that this product does repel some brake dust, but it's not pure magic as some reviews would have you think. But I did discover a great benefit that makes this product completely worth it in my opinion.

As others noted, when this clear mist-on coating dries, it leaves a film behind on the wheel that is supposed to repel brake dust. On my CNC machined aluminum, clear-coated wheels they attract only slightly less dust. This is on a high-performance car with very aggressive brake pads that create TONS of brake dust.

One day when the wheels were dirty, instead of a proper cleaning with the hose and my trusty wheel brush and other tools, I just took out a microfiber and gave them a quick wipe. A couple of days later I sprayed the wheels off in preparation for cleaning them. It was then I noticed something! Where I had wiped the wheels down a few days before, there was tons or brake dust well adhered to the wheel, but where I had not touched the wheel with the microfiber the brake dust washed off with just a spray of water. SO - the wheel protectant did NOT repel the brake dust, but it DID make it super easy to remove.

What I have found is that if I follow the directions - thoroughly clean the wheel, dry carefully (I used compressed air or an electric leaf blower to get all the nooks and crannies free of water), and apply the protectant and let it dry overnight, I get a month or more of protection.
