4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mech Game
Well, this is my first review, but I have already played this game thorougly. Basically, you are a mercenary, or a raven, that is in a tournament to beat "Nine Ball". Whoever beats him becomes the "Nine Breaker". So you are basically in a big tournament to reach the top. There is also a training mode. In this mode you can build your mech up with higher stats and better...

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh.
I was taken into the franchise when AC3SL came out and LOVED it. Then searched out 2, 2AA, and 3 and this one, AC9B. I missed out on Nexus, Last raven and now the AC4s because I grew out of it so to speak and fell back to true love of Mechwarrior (god rest) where if its that big and heavy, it'll be earthbound and wont hop around (or fy) like a flea on crakk. 4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mech Game, September 19, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Armored Core: Nine Breaker (Playstation 2) (Video Game)
Well, this is my first review, but I have already played this game thorougly. Basically, you are a mercenary, or a raven, that is in a tournament to beat "Nine Ball". Whoever beats him becomes the "Nine Breaker". So you are basically in a big tournament to reach the top. There is also a training mode. In this mode you can build your mech up with higher stats and better weapon parts.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:
GREAT Replay value. For each of the training missions you can do, you can get a bronze, silver or gold. So you constantly have to adjust your strategies to overcome these obstacles, giving the game great variation. Also, there are MANY ac's that you can fight. The other mechs that are not in the top 30 change their weapons, so you will always have some variety.

GREAT Variation. There are about 16 different parts to your mech. Then, for each part, there are at least 30 different parts. You can have laser guns, rifles, cannons, bazookas, pods, sniper rifles, machine guns, missle launcher, and variations of each of these as well as in the kind of core, head, arms, legs, etc. You obtain different parts when moving up ranks in the tournaments and achieving missions in training.

Pro/Con: Well, this is bad to some but great to many more. Now you do not have to do anymore "real" missions. There is no more "Protect this thing" or "hunt this thing" or something like that and there is not time limit in the tournaments.

Cons:
If you are not into mech fighting, then you can get bored really easily.

In the beginning, it really doesnt give you any introduction to the game, so it is very hard in the beginning.

Sometimes some mechs are REALLY strong, so their ranks are discoordinated. For example, I can beat rank 2 without a sweat but rank 30 can destroy me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Armored hits the streets once again!, May 17, 2006
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Armored Core: Nine Breaker (Playstation 2) (Video Game)
Armored core: Nine breaker is the new sequel to every game in the series. It's stunning graphics put you on the edge of the seat experience. plus, you can also take part in either training, where you earn medals (gold, silver or bronze) and become a record breaker, or you can take part in arena battles and customise your AC to unleash maximum destruction to become the nine breaker! Creating an emblem is also available, where you can make a picture for your AC! Unleash maximum mayhem with Nine Breaker! Apart from the graphics, the sound is around 6/10ish, so not very good on that. But you can also unlock goodies from the old armored core, Nexus. Note: If you haven't played nexus, you can't get the parts easily. you may have to earn points and medals (eg. MAYFLY head: 150 gold ranks) This is one of the best games to get!

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh., April 7, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

I was taken into the franchise when AC3SL came out and LOVED it. Then searched out 2, 2AA, and 3 and this one, AC9B. I missed out on Nexus, Last raven and now the AC4s because I grew out of it so to speak and fell back to true love of Mechwarrior (god rest) where if its that big and heavy, it'll be earthbound and wont hop around (or fy) like a flea on crakk. Just seemed more realistic.

BUT I DIGRESS!

This one I was very dissapointed with.

Good: Loved some of the re-vamp features such as the overheating(draining power instead of AP, great for my high EP style personally), the controls(making full use of both joysticks), Tuning, hangar units,(carry-overs from nexus), Some weapons universal to both hands(in my opinion, all should be), rivitalization of old-school parts, etc.

Can't say anything for the optional parts, which i never really used, including and espescially Op-intensity. A fact i'm very proud of. :) I find it cheap and dishonorable.

Bad: Some said very minor features which changed weren't as good. Such as machine guns able to fire a burst then be re-laoded as apposed to the full bore stacotto. But they were So minor it didn't take much from the game. The biggest draw-back: NO STORY WHAT SO EVER! No missions. It takes place during a lull in history where ravens are not needed and continually train and fight each other in the arena to get their fix.

Can't rate it well to the others. Could be fun to new commers but myself being a veteran, I've seen the light in the older games, a light absent from this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good tourney type AC, September 4, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Armored Core: Nine Breaker (Playstation 2) (Video Game)
Gonna make it short but sweet, er, yeah...anyhow this game is fun as hell. My cousin and I play it all the time now with two games, PS2s, TVs and a crossover cable (cheaper than the stupid 4 pin fire wire). Played the original AC for PS a hundred years ago, it was fun but I never paid enough attention to it. I'm a big FPS/online tourney guy and found this game to be like the Quake 3 version of Armored Core since it's all pretty much 1 on 1 fights against the computer (don't let that fool you, this game gets hard...and I'm not even talking about the endless amount of training missions). This game got me into AC so I give it a thumbs up.

5.0 out of 5 stars This game is awesome, September 20, 2005
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Armored Core: Nine Breaker (Playstation 2) (Video Game)
This game had everything a good game needs. It is appropriate for all audiences. It has tons of action but still has a lot of intellectual uses, as you must customize your mech. I highly suggest this game to any gamers.
