EXCELLENT READ COULDNT PUT IT DOWN,
By
This review is from: Armored Corps #1 (Paperback)
I can't really add anything to what oz wrote in his review. I was also a tanker and spent a year in 1ST Tank. And Mr. Callahan captured the life as a tanker better than any other author around. I would reccoment this book to every war buff.

A Damned Fine Read,
By
This review is from: Armored Corps #1 (Paperback)
This book is one of those that doesn't come along often. The storyline isn't some far-fetched fiction that has no possibility of ever happening. It is an awesome book that brings its readers into the story. I couldn't put this book down. I've read other great books about tankers such as Team Yankee, but this by far takes the cake. It builds up the characters and the plot fluidly. If you like Clancy, Coyle, or any of those types, then this book is definately up your alley!

On target account of US tankers in combat,
By Stormbringer (Arizona, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Armored Corps #1 (Paperback)
Tankers seldom get the literary attention they deserve, but this is as close as anyone gets to being in a tank in combat. The men of First Tank are real, the stress they are under vibrates through the pages, and it is an honor to see a hard-working part of the armed forces finally get there due. This is the real deal.

Shock and Awe,
By DallasCop "Mark" (Dallas, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Armored Corps #1 (Paperback)
I was at first very skeptical about this book, as I am with most military fiction. Being an Army vet and a Tanker as well, I tend to be fairly hard on new military fiction books. This book blew me away. A true "shock and awe" experience. From the beginning of the book to the cliffhanger ending, it was a true page turner. I read the book cover to cover without stopping. The storyline brought back many fond memories of my time in "First Tank". Several of the characters reminded me of good friends and comrades that I spent my youth around. I would recommend this book to anyone who reads military fiction. Hands down the best military fiction series I have read.

incredible book,

This review is from: Armored Corps #1 (Paperback)
First off i had my doubts about this book, After being a Tanker in the Army for 10 years and seeing combat, And also spending time in Korea With First Tank. But after reading this book I was really surprised how incredible this book was. While i was reading it, it was like i was back there again the way he describes in detail what life was like there it was dead on. If you want to know the true Tanker lifestyle you have to read this book once i started i could not put it down.

This, and the other 2 books of the series, are a very enjoyable read. The characters are well developed, as is the scenario and the execution of the plot. The premise is an attack by North Korea into the South and the defence by the US forces. Specifically by one tank commander and his group. If you like 'small unit' war stories, then this is excellent. The style of writing lends to a rapid, enjoyable read. No heavy thoughts, or deep social problems, just what it presents itself to be - a relaxing escape from reality (although with recent world events.....) and into adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed the author's style and content of writing. Hopefully he writes more on this subject!

It's a decent enough book, it's kind of like watching one episode of 24; "we all know it's not a 'good' show, has no character development, inconsistent plot, but is entertaining enough to watch if you're bored". It's simple, short, and follows a very shallow and cookie cutter character structure. It is also written at a 4th grade reading level. If you are a Clancy fan, this book will bore you to tears. If Clancy is too detail oriented, and hard for you to read, then you might like it.
If you are on an airplane, it's more entertaining than staring at the seat in front of you, but less entertaining than the safety procedure card.

Excellent book about a Modern Armored Tank Platoon leader and his fellow soldiers during the beginning of an attack on South Korea by the North Koreans.

Not much better than reading a technical manual,
By
This review is from: Armored Corps #1 (Paperback)
Back in the '80's, we tankers used to laugh at Harold Coyle's books. It was as if the Army wanted their troops to read tactics & manuals, so they put all the information in a novel -it's the closest we ever got to reading our tech books.
This book is an updated version of that process - the technical stuff is spot on. Fire commands, boresighting, yada yada yada. As far as plot line, character development or realistic plot? That got left in the motor pool. I'm a die hard tanker. If your mind works in two dimensions, this book is ok. otherwise, I'd prefer a Clancy with inaccuracies than this book with its facts. Predictable plot and ending. Two stars - one because it's about tanks, one because it gives an insider view of tanking.

This is a great book for people who like military action. I read all three books in the trilogy and enjoyed it quite a bit.
