Book Description

When a crippled young lord rescues a girl falling from a tree, it reveals a secret about himself and his mother's side of the family that could put him at the center of a war with beings he thought only existed in fairy tales.

Tristan Gareth Smyth lived his entire life stuck at home at Waverly Park and left behind while his Grandfather makes trips to London, all because of his blasted wheelchair.

Then an American heiress falls in his lap, literally, and he must find a way to keep her at a distance to protect not only his secret, but everyone around him from an assassin sent to kill him.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Awarded the Crowned Heart for Excellence - "An exciting cross between fantasy and steampunk with some low-level Christian elements, Lee and Creeden have written a fantastic blended story and the reader will be engaged almost from the first line. Readers looking for a light steampunk or faery story will enjoy Armored Hearts. The romance is not insta-love (nor even fully explored) but readers will enjoy the action and will look forward to a sequel." -InDtale Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect book for me. May 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
'Armored Hearts' is the perfect book for me. I love fairies and steampunk. Pauline and Melissa merged these two concepts so awesomely that I just fell in love. Besides that, it has some mystery and action, and everything is set in a historical era, which was described very accurate for the time.

I think the characters are well developed and the storyline was seamless. The book ends giving room for a sequel, but does not leave anything unresolved or plot holes.

The only thing I didn't like is the fact that the story felt a little bit rushed because the book is short! I think they could've stretched it more without losing the audience. Also, if any of the characters had died at any point, I wouldn't have been too torn by it because I wanted to love them more than I did. Yes, we can tell that Gareth has an emotional wall; we can see that Jessamine is independent and determined, Tabitha is sweet yet very intelligent and focused, but I wanted more depth. The villains are dealt with too easily (it reminded me of 'The Difference Between Night and Day'). I need more sense of urgency to be stretched out longer. I hope the authors are not scared of adding an extra 100 pages, lol.

I loved the "Bonnet Club" and I hope they get deeper into it in another book *hint, hint*

All in all, it's a great story full of romance, action, fantasy and sci-fi. What else can you ask for?

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT! July 5, 2013
By Celesta
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book so much I cancelled a date with friends so I could stay home and read! LOL! Read the entire book in 2 days despite the fact I have two young kids and a crazy busy life. The writing style was seriously addicting. I was so scared that the authors would make a horrible ending. You know how it's so much worse when you love the characters from the first page if the ending is bad? But this book did not disappoint, though the ending left you hungry for more! Hope they come out with the next book soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful May 1, 2013

What a wonderful story. I Absolutely loved it. Streampunk, mystery, faries and romance what else could you ask for. Jessamine is so strong and independent yet so very caring and patient with Gareth. Gareth being so hard on himself not only about his disability, but his ability to truly find someone to understand him. All I have left to say is hurry up with the next book. Can't wait for it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Armored Hearts November 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
So I get a request to read this book and I was excited. I kept seeing this on goodreads, and wanted to read it. It has what I like mixed with a new story line. I like having a new story line thrown into my favorite genres.

Any who, you have Tristan who is a young lord that spends his life in a wheelchair. Because he is in a wheelchair, he becomes unhappy and very grumpy. Being that way, makes it hard to approach people. There is this one person who can bring out the best in him. That's his aunt Tabitha. Once these two have gorwn, you are getting pretty far into the story. Up to this point, there should be no reason that you won't like this book. Even if you hate fantasy, you'll find some way to like this book.

So Tristan is not set very well, his financial situation is not the best. However this american man and his daughter come by. He makes a deal with Tristan. If he marry's his daughter, then he will help him financially. What to do? He doesn't want to marry her, but what can you do if you need to survive? So he settles on the fact that he will soon be married and thats it.

Now for my favorite part, and this is where the book picks up really fast. So it's a day before the wedding, and Tabitha is kidnapped. Tristan wants to save her, so he goes to get her. He must know that in any book, the world of FAE are not to be messed with. Even the nicest Fae have some kind of agenda. In this book he will have both good and evil Fae after him. What shal he do? Can he get her back? Will he learn some hidden truths?

Ughhh I want to say more...how do I say more without giving it all away? It's hard not to say every detail.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Joy to Discover! June 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
From the captivating cover to the final word, Armored Hearts is one of those reads that is a joy to discover! Not too dark, not too deep, but full of surprises, fantasy and love! In nineteenth century England, a young lord, confined to a wheelchair discovers a magical ability that is the tip of the iceberg to long kept secrets about his true identity. After being shunned for his disability his entire life, Gareth is resigned to a solitary existence until a young American girl comes along determined to make him hers. But what is she really after? His cynical disposition is his only tool at trying to keep a distance between them, but Jessamine has her own reasons for her persistence and uses her family's financial leverage to gain Gareth's hand. In the world of steampunk, Jessamine has, like many brilliant women, secretly designed a mechanical means to fly, astonishing Gareth and raising his opinion of the young woman. Together they uncover even more long kept secrets that put them in the crosshairs of magical creatures who wish Gareth dead. Who is young Gareth? What is young Gareth? What family secrets have been kept from him his entire life?

Melissa Turner Lee and Pauline Creeden make a creative statement that reads fast, with that "steampunk feel" tossing in some fae magic and a sweet story of love! The interaction between Jessamine's plucky attitude and Gareth's surly one is one that will make you chuckle, because you just KNOW this man is no match for this woman who has the ability to bring out the best in him! The plot flowed effortlessly along, plucking into the past and drawing it together with the present. A feel good read, for sure!
