This review is from: Armour of the Middle East Wars 1948-78 (Vanguard) (Paperback)
Steven Zaloga does a great job of describing the 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973 conflicts in the Middle East in just 40 pages of text. He gives a brief description of the battles which took place, and the performances of the AFVS used by both sides in the battle. I was most interested in the big tank battles which took place both in the 1967 and the 1973 Arab-Israeli wars. Zaloga does not disappoint -- he gives a brief yet detailed synopsis of what took place.
The colored plates are good but not as well-done as those by Jim Laurier in later Zaloga books. However, if you're looking for a brief yet comprehensive treatment of the Arab-Israeli wars, with an emphasis on the tank battles, this is the book for you. Highly recommended! You may want to look into other books by Zaloga, such as the T54-55 tanks and the British Centurion Tank. These books go into more detail of how the particular AFVs used in combat fared in the Arab-Israeli wars. |
