4.0 out of 5 stars Life at the sharp end, British style, July 31, 2007
This review is from: Armoured Guardsmen : A War Diary, June 1944-April 1945 (Hardcover)
"Armoured Guardsmen" is a very good war diary memoir of life at the sharp end by a tank troop (platoon) commander of the 1st (Armoured) Coldstream Guards in WW2. Most of the book is as written at the time, with insert commentary and clarification added frequently to add perspective from the vantage point of later experience. Being an elite unit, some of the author's experiences are different from those of others (like Bill Bellamy, "Troop Leader", writing about the same period with 7th Armoured Division Desert Rats). The Guards were somewhat favored. Descriptions and a few photos of their unique Typhoon 60lb. rocket rail installations will be helpful to scale modelers planning to replicate this.
