Book Description

October 1, 2010

If only everyone could be as happy as they are...

Darcy and Elizabeth are as much in love as ever-even more so as their relationship matures. Their passion inspires everyone around them, and as winter turns to spring, romance blossoms around them.

Confirmed bachelor Richard Fitzwilliam sets his sights on a seemingly unattainable, beautiful widow; Georgiana Darcy learns to flirt outrageously; the very flighty Kitty Bennet develops her first crush, and Caroline Bingley meets her match.

But the path of true love never does run smooth, and Elizabeth and Darcy are kept busy navigating their friends and loved ones through the inevitable separations, misunderstandings, misgivings, and lovers' quarrels to reach their own happily ever afters...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good representation of a Jane Austin book November 2, 2010
Format:Paperback
I am sad to say that I agree with the negative ratings above. I was very excited to find this book and was looking forward to going back to the lives of Elizabeth Bennett & Mr. Darcy. (I love Jane's original book & BBC version of the movie) What this author missed on was all the fun details & interactions that Jane put into her characters. I love the way her mom was portrayed as an over exaggerated drama queen. We barely see that here. In fact the during the Christmas scenes we only get a few sentences from the mom. Mary is now a pretty level- headed girl, no longer fully dedicated to her spiritual side. The Father Mr. Bennett is very quite and reserved.

I also agree with a critic above that sex is always a great part of a married life, but this book brings us into this part of Jane and Darcy's life over, and over, and over. It is very descriptive about 4 to 6 pages long, sadly this is not a book for a young girl to read, and it was not what I was wanting out of the novel. I agree with a critic above this book belongs in the romance novel section.

I will also admit I started trying to remember if I had the receipt for my purchase because I did not want to contribute to the author's income. I really thought I would read a great continuation of Elizabeth & Darcy lives and interactions with family and friends. What I got was a cheap and descriptive romance novel. I am so disappointed!

If you like romance novels you will like this book, as for me I want to keep the intimate details of their love making behind the door. And see more of the fun interactions with family and friends that we got from Jane Austin.

For the rest of you who haven't drank the Kool-Aid, don't bother with this one. Outside of reading about the Darcys' getting it on for the umpteenth time and gurgling non-stop about Darcy Jr., there is very little else in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Joyous Married Love, Regency Style October 10, 2010
Format:Paperback
IN THE ARMS OF MR. DARCY is the latest installment in Sharon Lathan's joyous celebration of married love, Regency style.

A year has passed since Darcy's and Elizabeth's wedding. The story opens with a Christmas party at Pemberley where they introduce their brand-new son, Alexander. Compared to their tumultuous courtship, Darcy's and Elizabeth's lives are now mainly happy, with, of course, a little sturm und drang along the way.

Darcy must deal with the business and emotional fallout of a death that occurred when a cotton mill he owns burns down. A nervous Elizabeth and Georgiana suffer through the gyrations required for their presentation at court. The Darcys enjoy a trip to the Peaks District, except when a falling boulder threatens Elizabeth and Alexander. Darcy, true hero that he is, whisks them to safety.

Although Elizabeth and Darcy revel in domestic bliss, other members of their family are not so lucky. Elizabeth's sister, Kitty, enjoys and suffers through her first fluttering of love. And Col. Fitzwilliam's tentative romance with a lady who caught his eye years ago resurfaces. I love Col. Fitzwilliam's story. I've added him right next to Mr. Darcy on my Favorite Heroes list.

If most of these events sound ordinary, it's because they are. Ms. Lathan's genius is to spin the everyday occurrences of married life into a page-turner. In a world full of strife, this book full of happiness is a treat for all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Calico Critic Review: In the Arms of Mr. Darcy October 26, 2010
Format:Paperback
For months, I have looked forward to diving into Sharon Lathan's series, "The Darcy Saga". I managed to obtain Books 1-3, and signed up to review Book 4 for this month. My goal was to work through the series from the beginning and then continue to Book 4, "In the Arms of Mr. Darcy", now available from Sourcebooks Landmark. Alas, my schedule--both my personal and my reading schedule have been inundated with activity and I have had to begin my experience with "The Darcy Saga" without reading the first three books in the series.

Fortunately, Sharon has presented a Darcy tale that can stand on its own--all that is required is a rudimentary knowledge of Jane Austen's classic novel, "Pride and Prejudice". While I wish I could have begun the series from the top, I don't believe my experience was diminished by this fact at all. I became easily immersed into this Austenian world and had a complete grasp of the events and relationships within.

A listing of the "Cast of Characters", a brief description of the main characters, including some birth dates and wedding anniversaries, precedes Lathan's tale. This was quite a useful tool for me at the outset, as it kept me from disorientation with all of the individuals within the story. I especially liked the inclusion of dates, as I was able to understand the context of events in Lathan's timeline.

"In the Arms of Mr. Darcy" is quiet and yet recurrently passionate, primarily focusing on Fitzwilliam Darcy, his wife Elizabeth and their newborn son Alexander. Surrounding them are their close friends and family, most of who were introduced in the original "Pride and Prejudice".
