One of our dogs has a space aggression issue when he is resting. We have been kenneling him at night, but he often cries because he misses our other dog and would like to sleep in the bed with the rest of the "pack."
After a sleep deprived year of working with him and trying to get him to sleep through the night (and working on his aggression), I finally had enough. My husband and I decided to try finding a way for him to feel like he was sleeping "with" us, but separate enough that it wouldn't trigger his aggression when we (the humans) move while we sleep.
This bed worked perfectly. He has slept through the night on the top bunk (next to the bed) for the last three nights without an issue. I set the bed a half an arms length away and he loves it. He feels secure but connected to us and if he needs extra attention I can reach over and let him snuggle with my hand for a few minutes.
I didn't realize it but the bottom "bunk" of this bed zips up and can function as a kennel. Our other dog loves the cozy kennel "feel" underneath.
The unit comes in a neat little bag. Once out of the bag, the bed sets up in seconds. It takes less time to put it up than the collapsible single dog kennel we purchased for traveling. Love. Love. Love.
My 5 dogs don't seem to understand this bed has weight restrictions so when my 100lb Rottweiler jumped on the top bunk last week for the first time I officially knew I am absolutely in love with this "crib"
All the dogs love being able to sleep next to me without getting kicked off the bed tons of times in the middle of the night. We have a very small bedroom so we went with the smaller size so the biggest problem is who gets to sleep in the crib and who has to sleep in the regular dog bed. The medium easily fits my 3 beagles (20lbs each) on the top or my 60lb pit and a beagle or two on top (very snuggled fit!) even the cat loves to join in and snag a spot on the bottom bunk.
One thing that irritates me about the bed is that it's very cold and uncomfortable without some type of liner or pad. This bed is expensive and the fact that they do not include the nice padded liner is just aggravating!
We put down a fleece bed and lots of snuggly blankets.
The dogs are happy and the hubby is happy he is no longer being pushed out of the bed, we love this thing!
We trained them to "go to bed" with high value treats (only took them a couple of nights to figure it out) and now they sleep their all night long and love it! In fact, you can often find our little girl in her bottom bunk when she wants to get away from all the commotion. We have to lure her out to go potty in the mornings if she is too tired! Totally wish we would have gotten this years ago! The unit is VERY sturdy. Make sure to fully read the directions on how to lock in the arms. Only down side is the pad that comes with isn't what I would call cushy. But we fixed this with a doggie bed up top and nice fluffy fleece. Best investment ever!!
I have two male Australian Shepherds that are supposed to be "mini", but got too tall for that classification, but are too small to classify as standard size. They run about 45-50 lbs and 18-20 inches at the shoulders and 35 inches from tip of the nose to the end of the rump.
I ordered the medium because of reports of other 45 lb dogs having plenty of room. They did have enough room length wise, but they both love to sleep on their backs and stretch their legs straight up. There just isn't enough clearance in the bottom bunk and the top is too "exposed". They would jump up on the top and curl up there, but never really used the bottom den.
I gave them almost two weeks to adjust, but they just kept begging to go back into the kennel (which I had locked them out of). So I moved the bunk and re-opened the kennel and within minutes they were stretched out on their backs, legs in the air, and content as could be.
I seriously considered replacing with the large size bunk but four things held me back.
1. Its nearly the same dimensions as the current kennel.
2. The overall height is the same, which makes me think they won't have room to lay on their backs in their preferred positions.
3. It only comes in grey, which doesn't go with my decor.
