5.0 out of 5 stars Homage to the recording legacy of Louis Armstrong, July 8, 2005

This review is from: Louis Armstrong Tsumura collection
Satchmo's place and importance in musical and recording history is being kept alive by his fans abroad while being somewhat ignored in America. Mr. Armstrong, of course, is probably the single most important musical figure in history and books like this are the proof of it. This 456 page book privately published in 1989 features full color photography on every page of full-size labels of his 78's, 33's and 45's. In addition, there are full-color shots of record album covers, acetates, book covers, promo shots and candid portraits, record catalogues, tapes and transcriptions along with captioning about recording personnel, dates and other recording info. The publisher, Akira Tsumura is one of the leading collectors worldwide of Satchmo and all of the items are taken from his collection. The book is a masterpiece of the art of book construction as well using the best of glossy paper and deluxe construction. The dust jacket is spectacular - a work of art itself! Only 300 copies were printed (they were hardbound editions only) and they rarely surface for sale as most were immediately snapped up for the archive collections of Armstrong collectors, museum libraries, university special collections libraries, book collectors, record collectors and musicologists in general. A must-have for the serious music aficionado!
