Throughout my childhood I knew my parents had a trove of War letters stored in the attic, and that some of them were written in a secret code that only my mother would understand, so his whereabouts could be discretely revealed to her. It was a triumph for the whole family to have many of those letters published here by Fordham University Press, many thanks to editor Scott Bennett. And if I do say so, the book is an absolute page-turner! I learned more about my parents and my Uncle Al that I ever could have realized about them, and "lived" those days of the 1940s by virtue of their very human, yet very astute writing. So proud to be their descendant!
