5.0 out of 5 stars A band that knows the TRUE meaning of "entertaining music"!!
I've been an Army Of Lovers fan from the start, and have collected all their releases including the remixes. Les Greatest Hits is an ultimate collection showing how even through the changes of its members Army Of Lovers knows how to entertain. A friend in Sweden told me that what many people don't realize is that Army Of Lovers did all the music and vocal talent...

I've been an Army Of Lovers fan from the start, and have collected all their releases including the remixes. Les Greatest Hits is an ultimate collection showing how even through the changes of its members Army Of Lovers knows how to entertain. A friend in Sweden told me that what many people don't realize is that Army Of Lovers did all the music and vocal talent themselves, and they are quite brilliant musicians. This is no processed band at all. Lush, evocative, and epic songs that transcend dance music. I was particularly impressed with "Everytime You Lie." NOTE: For true collectors, there is yet ANOTHER version of Les Greatest Hits in which "Stand Up For Myself" is deleted and in its place is the song "King Midas." I found a remix single of that and saw the video and just knew that Army Of Lovers was too genius to get the proper recognition they deserve...now if I could only have a DVD of all their videos I think my life would be complete! Also be on the lookout for their rendition of Abba's "Hasta Manana" on the Swedish compilation "Abba: The Tribute" and the recent Abba anniversary tribute.

5.0 out of 5 stars fab fun, April 12, 2001
This review is from: Army of Lovers - Les Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Les Greatest Hits is just 18 tracks of fabulous, fluffy, clever pop. They've just released their first new single in 5 years, a cover of Let The Sunshine In, and it seems like they've never been away: totally out of sync with present trends, but timeless.

5.0 out of 5 stars A FABULOUS COLLECTION OF HITS, September 7, 2002

One of life's true pleasures comes in this "Les Greatest Hits" album. Starting at warp speed with "Give My Life" you're wisked to "Venus and Mars" in the blink of an eye. "Ride the Bullet" is great, and of course "Crucified" can be relied upon to keep the tempo racing. "Everytime You Lie" and "Israelism" are unique, and following form, "Sexual Revolution" breaks down all barriers. "I Am" is pure fun. The whole album soars to the stars, and you can with it. No Army of Lovers fan should be without this CD in their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great retrospective of a great group, May 30, 2000
This review is from: Army of Lovers - Les Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I've loved them since I first heard 'Crucified' in a "club" in 1992 and have been a collector ever since. This album includes their best songs (even though a couple have been left off, damn) and five new ones ('Give My Life', 'Venus and Mars', 'Requiem' and two remixes of 'Life is Fantastic' and 'Stand Up for Myself'). Also included here is the solo project of La Camilla ('Everytime You Lie', great song). The original line-up was Alexander Bard (red), Jean-Pierre Barda (curly) and La Camilla (long hair). In the American reissue of 'Massive Luxury Overdose' (their 1991 album), La Camilla was replaced by Michaela Dornonville De La Cour (blond). In their 1992 'Gods of Earth and Heaven' their were joined by former sex-telephonist Dominika Peczinski (hope I got it right)(Seems like all females here could have been Russ Meyer stars). Dornonville De La Cour left to be replaced by returned La Camilla for this 1995 album. This represent their repertoire very well, and in my opinion it's great. I love this music and too bad they haven't released anything more. Pop music album that has to be in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! How Many Artists Have Used This Group?, November 1, 2000
This review is from: Army of Lovers - Les Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
In Spain I saw a video of 'Crucified' and thought WOW! how come I haven't heard of them before?

I bought this and realised how many 'acts' from Spice Girls to Eminem have taken from this Band while they have received such little recognition.

This album is FANTASTIC! There is not one duff track. They were way ahead of their time - rap mixed with HNRG and RnB -just listen to 'My Army of Lovers' which can wipe Blondie's 'Rapture' off the turntable. 'Venus and Mars' - a dance track which MelC with 'Turn to You' clearly ripped off. 'Israelism' is like nothing you've heard before. They are virtually indescribable - complex, erotic lyrics and rythmns, they remind me of Louise Brooks set to Disco! Forget Kylie, Steps, Abba, Madonna (who has taken from them in image and music)and even Eminem and Moby, and every dance track since 1990 - the basis for all of them are here. This is sooo SEXY. Music to make you feel beautiful and go out and have the night of your life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, solid album, August 8, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Army of Lovers - Les Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I only discovered Army of Lovers music a few years ago and I was instantly hooked. A fun, campy and over-the-top band with great talent. This is one of the few greatest hits albums I own which I can can truly say I love every single song. Anyone just discovering Army of Lovers should buy this first.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good, even STR8 people can get into AOL's campy fun!!, December 12, 2006
This review is from: Army of Lovers - Les Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Like myself, LOL!!! This is just a stupendous hits collection, which will make you react "What the...???" and "What the hell!!!" simultaneously, and just get into the fun. As one reviewer in the "Music Hound Guide To Rock" book said, this is a "variety show of dance pop with shaved legs and a hairy chest", and that description couldn't be more apt. I've noticed this ABBA-like band of Swedes get noticed for their irreverent campiness, more than their music, which is kind of unfortunate, as it's typical Scandinavian pop genius...sorta like the problem Jellyfish had in getting taken seriously...putting a clown nose on the Mona Lisa, if you will. Like, why CAN'T you be genius pop and have outrageous fun at the same time???

Anyhoo, this swell AOL collection is a good place to start, and/or all you need, depending on your taste. I've noticed there is a newer 2001/2002 2CD collection out called "The Complete Docu-Soap", as AOL reunited after 5 years...I know Alexander formed a dancepop group called Vacuum, and he produced a trio of genius Ethiopian teenage girls called MIDI, MAXI & EFTI (check out their 1992 debut (only??) album on Columbia, it's overlooked genius), plus in 2005/2006, Alexander was the keyboardist/producer in a NEW dancepop trio called BODIES WITHOUT ORGANS, with a great album on Capitol/EMI...I gotta keep up with Mr. Bard.

Every song is great here...faves are "Crucified" (of course), "Israelism" (I am Jewish, so this song is hilarious...Jean-Pierre is over-the-top funny), "La Plage De Saint Tropez" (similar melody as this song by Greek diva Anna Vissi, but awesome all-around, both songs), "King Midas" (as good as the Hollies song "King Midas In Reverse"), all 18 really...

As for the vidclips, I will look them up on YouTube...they posted the BWO vidclip, why not AOL??? It'll be grand to get a DVD collection though. I wonder if Jean-Pierre released any solo records, and if AOL is an ongoing thing, with BWO in action and all...

Fun stuff, and ahead-of-it's time classic campy pop that's actually getting it's due!!! Excellent.

The Ultimate collection of greatest hits. Every track is excellent. Wierd and complex lyrics against a hilarious hi-energy beat. It always lifts my spirits and I have already booked 'La Plage de St Tropez' to be played at my funeral.
