I love this game, my kids (ages 10,11,16) love this game, and we play it often. I love this game, my kids (ages 10,11,16) love this game, and we play it often. Even though it is several years older than others that have come out since, it is a fallback of joy, laughter, thrills, and excitement. The you vs. game component isn't bad and you have three levels to work with to get yourself to the end. But it's the journey, my friends. Plastic army men on household and back yard battlefields was like having the games you used to play as a kid with these toys come to life!
The Capture the Flag and Death Match parts are the best, especially Death Match, which is four player and usually what the kids and I play. You will have to adjust your brightness in the options section as it is pretty dark, but the adjustment makes it fine. Hurl grenades, find the flamethrowers or HMG for maximum firepower, and find the protective gear and you're set for a great time. It is easy to master thanks to the automatic targeting aim, so even the lamest novice can do well. Making it that much cooler from a parent's point of view, this isn't bloody at all - they're plastic!! It's kind of funny to watch these giant holes get blasted in the plastic guys and yet they still run around! Imagine the character from T2 as a plastic army man!
I could ramble on and on but let me just say that I believe you will really enjoy this. Unless your child (or you) need some blood drenched game to enjoy, this game is a blast!

You're Sargeant Hawk (or Sarge for short), who is sent on a mission to quell some rebel Tan forces from wrecking the peace treaty signing between the Greens and Tans. However, a massive explosion at the signing kills everyone - Tan's General Plastro, Grimm, the Heroes - while Sarge is away. When he comes back he founds out a crazy Tan soldier named General Malice caused the explosion, and takes to kill Malice with his own hands. His own personal war.

It's the same as Sarges Heroes 1 & 2 - You run around in 3rd person, shooting and blowing up enemies, while trying to reach the end of the stage. In Sarges War you get a lot of weapons going anywhere from Bazookas, to shotguns, to "HMGs" (heavy machine guns), flamethrowers, and much more. You can run, jump, roll, crouch-walk, and climb - so thats pretty basic. Every now and then you can also use toy .50 caliber gun emplacements to mow down enemies..

There is multiplayer, but I haven't played it yet. From what my friend Paul told me it is entertaining..so I guess go check it out.

Speaking of enemies... you'll fight a whole bunch of Tan soldiers, in different variations. There is the basic soldier, then there is the sniper/scout who tries to call in reinforcements, and then there is the elites.. the elites are annoying because they are stealthed and hard to kill unless you use a flamethrower. These enemies are equipped with some pretty devestating weapons, so be careful.

The graphics, I'll admit, are ugly. I don't understand how they went from the SH2 remake's awesome graphics to this. Though everything runs smooth, all the buildings and characters look really blocky, pixalated and just...fugly lol. One thing I thought was cool was when Sarge took more and more damage, eventually his plastic began to fall off in chunks.

The voice acting is a little off, but the explosions and guns are nicley done. The music is a bit tacky and repetitive, but somehow still manages to fit in and add a little to the atmosphere. It goes from soft techno, to robot/computer noises, to rock.. so its just a matter of opinion I guess.

The game has its ups and downs in difficulty. Some levels are very easy, others are just right, and then there are the handful which are overly hard. The end battle with Malice was ridiculous - your in a small room filled with Tan forces while fighting him, and they all have either HMGs or flamethrowers... Malice himself has a bazooka!

Now lets talk endings shall we? This ending had an interesting twist, but it was still garbage. Sarge Hawk defeats Malice, and Sarge takes off Malice's face plate to find that Malice was actually a green colonel that Sarge had fought side by side with, but accidently left to die during an ambush. Malice was rebuilt by the Tans, and filled with hate attacked the greens to kil lSarge. When the traitor dies, we see Sarge standing by the large headstone of his fallen friends & comrades with a sunset in the background. This wouldn't be too bad if we had some sort of cliff hanger or an idea as to what the next game would be..

To sum it up, though ugly, Sarges War was a pretty fun run-of-the-mill third person shooter. It took that childish feel from the Sarges Hereos games and took it into a more violent and dark direction, which was good. I suggest you give it a shot if you own a Gamecube, you'll have fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Army Game Ever, March 25, 2008

This game is very fun because on a multi-player game mode you can hunt around for weapons ranging from HMGs,to bazzokas, to If you're looking for a game with blood you're in the wrong place.(although whenever you get shot holes appear, but it's a pretty cool effect). Has a interesting story line but only has 12 stages. In the story mode you're Sergeant Hawk vs. the tans. I recomed this game for anyone who likes single or multi player army games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Army Men Game yet., November 5, 2005
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Army Men Sarges War (Video Game)
I saw this game when I was in fifth grade. I played it at my friend's house.

Graphics-4 out of 5. The game is graphic for an army men game. The soldiers can even lose body parts. The shading is very dark however.

Sound- 4 out of 15- Remember the sonic SATAM cartoon? The actor who voiced Dr. Robotnik is lending his low voice to Sargent Hawk. Jim Cummings voice captures the mood of the games.

Gameplay- 3 out of 5 It's just like the other games.

Story- 5 out of 5. It is sad and dark, but touching. The greens and tans were finally at peace when they were bombed. Sarge and Riff were te only survivors.
Cool Game!

4.0 out of 5 stars A 13 year old's review., September 17, 2011

This review is from: Army Men Sarges War (Video Game)
This my 16th Army men. And the first that Ive purchased for my Wii. It was also the first Army men to be made by GS software.

GRAPHICS: Sarge's War has been criticized for having ugly graphics. But I heavily disagree. The game looks great! GS did a great job with their attempt at a darker, grittier game than the previous ones in the series. Sarge is really detailed and is full of little dents.
GAMEPLAY: The gameplay here is like a combination of Sarges heroes 2, World war Land Sea Air, and a look all its own.
For each level, you accomplish an assignment. Such as destroying a plastic mine, or freeing POW's. You also shoot the...er, plastic? out of Tan's. Each level has four or so area's to clear.
Audio: The guns sounded awesome! The voice acting on the other hand...

What I liked: I liked all the special effects that went into Sarge's War. Such as losing your head or arm as you got blasted by a Tan machine gunner. The multi-player was also terrific! You actually can chose what color you want this time! The graphics were realistic and good looking, and most of the game is played in the real world! And the gameplay is good old Army men fun.

What i didn't like: As fun as Sarge's war was at times, there were WAY too problems. The guns were so stinkin INNACURATE! Jim Cummings failed to put much emotion in Sarge for this one. Also, too much of the voice acting was too cheesy for a game like this. "Tell my plastic wife I love her!", "Don't worry. Sarge will never find our secret caves!", "The war isn't over until I say it over!". I was also disappointed about the story. Inspite of there being 5 CG cut-scenes, there was nothing else to continue the story. The game is also too short, only 12 levels. And on top of that, you can't even go back and play your favorite levels like in previous games! Some of the levels were too bizarre. They didn't really fit in with a military game. Or even an Army men game.

OVERALL: There were several times when I almost sold Sarge's War. But now I think I'll keep it. If not for the multi-player. This is not the best Army men in my collection. But not really the worst. I suppose I could recommend that you buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Plastic Call of Duty, May 2, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Army Men Sarges War (Video Game)
This is probably one of the best games in the Army Men series. It is a third person shooter with decent graphics. You can carry as many weapons as you want. It has an action packed campaign with many missions. The multiplayer is one of the best parts of the game with four maps. This is almost like a plasic Call of Duty. I would recommend this to anyone with a gamecube or any other system that would run this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Game, November 7, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Army Men Sarges War (Video Game)
This is one of the best games I played for gamecube. The controls are great and the only problem is that it is hard to time the grenade throwing. It beats the heck out of other army men games I played(except for air attack). There is a new villian introduced in army men, "Colonel Malice" or known as Lord Malice. The multiplayer(not online)is about 3-outof-5 stars because it is not very fun without 4 people. The maps are too big to find anyone or there are too many hiding places. I would recomend this game to anyone who likes "single player."

I have always liked the army men games and I was so excited when I got this game! IT IS ONE OF THE BEST ARMY MEN GAMES I HAVE PLAYED! The graphics were sweet! The story was cool, but there was two things that i didn't like: The game has only 12 levels, and I beat it 3 times in 4 days! Another problem was the multiplayer, the maps were so small! Except for these two factors the game rocked!!
